smaller format, prior to putting them on a mobile phone. Though it varies between mobile
phone models, screen resolution for touchscreen phones is generally no larger than 1136x640
or 1280x720. For a picture to display well, its resolution usually needs to be at or slightly
above the phone’s resolution.
Here are what to do:
1) Go to the start menu, click “All programs”, “Accessories” and then “Paint”. Click
the blue “Paint” button at the top left of the menu bar, then click “Open” and then
navigate to and double click on the picture you need to convert to a mobile phone
friendly format,
2) Click the “Resize and skew” button in the “Images” section of the “Home” tab or
press “Ctrl-W”. Select dialog box, check the “maintain aspect ratio” check box and
then type in the desired size for the image. Click “OK” when done.
3) Click the blue “Paint” button again and then “Save as.” Navigate to the desire folder
and select a file format for the image from the “Save as Type” drop-down menu. All
mobile phones support the JPEG format and most also support the PNG and GIF
formats. Click “save” to save the image. Connect your mobile phone to the

Smog is air pollution that reduces visibility. The term “smog” was first used in the early
1900s to describe a mix of smokes and fog. The smoke usually came from burning coal.
Smog was common in industrial areas and remains a familiar sight in cities today.
Today, most of the smog we see is photochemical smog. Photochemical smog is
produced when sunlight reacts with nitrogen oxides and at least one volatile organic
compound (VOC) in the atmosphere. Nitrogen oxides come from car exhausts and factory
emissions. VOCs are released from gasoline, paint and many cleaning solvents. When
sunlight hits these chemicals, they form airborne particles and ground-level ozone-or smog.
Ozone can be helpful or harmful. The ozone layer high up in the atmosphere protects us
from the sun’s dangerous ultraviolet radiation. However, when ozone is close to the ground,
it is bad for human’s health. Ozone can damage lung tissue and it is especially dangerous to
people with respiratory illnesses like asthma. Ozone can also cause itchy, burning eyes.
Smog is harmful to humans and animal and it can kill plants. Smog is also ugly. It
makes the sky brown or grey. Smog is common in big industrial cities and traffic. Cities
located in basins surrounded by mountains may have smog problems because the smog gets
trapped in the valley and cannot be carried away by wind.
Many countries, including the United States, have issued laws to reduce smog,
including restriction on what chemicals a factory can release into the atmosphere, or when the
factory can release them. Communities have “burn days” where residents can burn waste as
leaves in their yard. These places limit on chemicals released into the air, to reduce the
amount of smog.

42. What should we do to reduce smog?

a. Burn leaves in the morning
b. Use public transportation
c. Live in a suburb area
d. Use less electricity
43. From the text we can conclude that ...
a. Smog which firstly appeared in 1800s was common in industrial areas and coal
mining
b. Only people living in big cities suffer from health problems caused by smog and
ultraviolet radiation
c. Ozone which is close to the ground protect us from smog and dangerous ultraviolet
radiation
d. People living in an industrial area surrounded by mountains may have health
problems caused by smog
44. Which paragraph explains the disadvantages of the smog?
a. Paragraph 1
b. Paragraph 2
c. Paragraph 3
d. Paragraph 4

omnivores. They eat a wide variety of plant and animal life, including insects, crustaceans,
sea grasses and worms.
