SUMMERY
Newcastle born video creator, I study all roles in the film making process, it is
something I am very passionate about, and takes up all most of my time. My aim
is in to auteur short films, creating personal projects that are rewarding to work
on as well as being financially successful. I am a creative orienteered person,
often doing other forms of creative output when not filming, this consists of
illustrating, creative writing, music and others.
Being involved in all parts of the filmmaking process is important to me and as I
study around the subjects constantly and keep up to date with recent film
production developments and trends. Every part of a production needs to
cooperate for a professional final piece to immerge.
I have camera operated and recorded audio for other productions alongside my
own. Audio and camera recording for independent projects as well as student
projects has given me a good understanding of the production of visual media.
Prior to film I have worked as a training arborist, and in retail (both local
businesses and supermarket), this has given me a hard-working mentality, where
I am become heavily motivated and productive. To do these jobs you have to be
used to doing strenuous manual jobs, at early hours of the morning for prolonged
amounts of time. Something which overlaps with the film industry. These times
working from an early age is one of the key aspects I look at in my work and can
defiantly be seen in my screenwriting.

SKILLS

WORK HISTORY
02/2017 – Audio recorder/grip work: Short film Howay!
Writer: Wyatt Bunce, Director: William J. L. Hamilton, Production Company:
IndexthumbThis professional crowd funded short film featured the BAFTA
nominated actor Dave Johns. It took several days and various locations to finish
shooting in Newcastle. Over those days I helped with the grip work and recorded
audio for several scenes. This gave me valuable insight into the filmmaking
process and lent me valued film production contracts. I saw how locations are
used to help develop the story as well increase production value. I got to
experience using advance lighting set ups to light a scene through a window, as
well as elaborate camera work. I also got talking to the crew involved in the pre-
production and learned a lot about crowd funding filmmaking as well as how to
allocate money wisely to maximise its effects. This was a valued insight into the
industry that I would like to eventually get in to, as well as learning from the
people around
me how financially
doing these projects
alongside similar
occupations can be a
viable venture in
the future.

Still, Howay! (Hamilton, 2017)

2017 to present - Working with Performers
I have recorded large group productions, monologues, dance and vocal
performances that have been used for professional portfolios, advertisements,
social media and showreels. As well as photographing headshots that are used in
CVs for professional contractors. This gives me valuable experiences in how to
work with a client for a production. How to understand and interpret people’s
visions as well as explain my own. It taught me how to work to deadlines and the
importance of doing giving time for post-production. I hone some technical skills
when I do these shoots and I often learn a lot of new technical skills, such as
recording through a mixing desk, which I did for the last Musical Theatre
production. After a long time of practicing photography, I can put this at use
during photoshoots, even though there is only so much technical practice, you
gain important professional interpersonal skills through these very personal
sessions.

12/2018 – Producing/Writing/Directing: Minor project Armageddon Game
Armageddon game allowed me to auteur for the first time with a full crew and
actors. I produced, wrote, directed and edited the film. The production consisted
of organising the actors, crew and a paid location. Transport was also needed to
be provided for crew and actors alike, as the location was isolated. All these
factors tested my communicational and organisational skills. This role defiantly
gave me the most responsibility of any other role and gave me the opportunity
to work on a project through in its entirety. The outcome is something I am proud
of, the final piece looks stylised without looking cheap, and the narrative beats
work well throughout. The shoot was well organised and worked exactly how it
was planned, despite doing over 16 hours of filming over 2 days and actors that
could only do one; there was minimum hick ups, and this was reflected in the
result which is being submitted to several short film festivals around the UK.
