Is it Better to Give than to Receive?

Hurricane Michael has left devastation like most of us cannot even imagine. I wish I
could say that CCCC sent over a team of chainsaws and back-hoes to help with the
cleanup and aftermath. We just are not that church anymore. Not that our heart
doesn’t break for all those over in the Panama City area, and not that we wouldn’t want
to serve in any way we can. But we just don’t have the muscle and back strength for
that kind of labor. I wish we did. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t something we can
do. Every year we have a Christmas Tree in the foyer of the church with paper orna-
ments that represent kids and families from various organizations that we want to help
have a better Christmas. This year, one of our most generous and kind-hearted mem-
bers suggested that we reach out to the Panama City sister churches and see if there
were not some families affected by Hurricane Michael that could use a little extra help
to make Christmas still exciting for their kids and families. So we reached out to the
pastor of the Panama City Christian Church, and found out that there were indeed
some families across all three of our sister churches that could use our help. (Christian
Church Panama City, Eastside Christian Church, and Bayou George Christian Church)
To say that our CCCC family responded would be an understatement. As I am typing
this article (the week before Christmas) there are 13 bins of Christmas gifts being pre-
pared for the families over in Panama City. It doesn’t at all surprise me that our church
family stepped up in such a big way, because I KNOW that the kind-hearted and gener-
ous heart of all those that gave is just how we roll around here. And in this case, it is
definitely BETTER to GIVE than to receive.
But on the other hand, our CCCC Choir delivered a Christmas musical (like we do
every year) but the one thing that really hit me this year was this: Emmanuel, GOD
WITH US, came in the form of a little baby, and was a GIFT. Jesus came to be our
SACRIFICE and pay for the sins of ALL of us. God’s plan all along was that Jesus, cel-
ebrated as a new born baby at Christmas, offers peace, hope, and eternal life. And
while I realize the idea that it is better to GIVE than to RECEIVE, all of us who wear the
name “Christian” are far better off when we receive the gift of salvation found only
through the ONE we celebrate this time of year. This will hit home in just a few months
when we remember the cross and celebrate the empty tomb. Jesus overcame death,
proving he had overcome our sin. And ACCEPTING that gift is all that is required for
our relationship with an almighty God to be restored.
Is it really better to GIVE than to RECEIVE? I guess it depends on where your rela-
tionship with Christ is. I love seeing the excitement when a kid opens a gift. But I’m
really grateful that God has offered the gift of salvation.
In His Service,
Allen

Eight Great Revelations For Your New Year

As we experience life laying siege to us, sometimes from all sides, we need hope, wisdom, and good resolve to man-
age what we bear, and yet prevail very well! Remember always, God
loves us and is leading us to good life and the promised land.

*Enriching Resolute Revelations:

1. “But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” Josh. 24:15d
(To walk with God is life’s greatest decision…)

2. “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve.
Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of
eternal life. John 6:67&68 (Remain close to Jesus, loving Him and His church…)

3. Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.”
Luke 4:8 (Make no place for evil or the evil one…)

4. No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined
for our glory before time began. 1 Cor. 2:7 (God has revealed truth and life to us…)

5. Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?”
Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”
Jn. 6:28&29 (Your steadfast faith is worth more than silver or gold…)

6. Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul,
and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally
important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of
the prophets are based on these two commandments.” Mat. 22:37-40
(This is the key to righteousness in all areas of your life…)

7. No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I
am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, k neither the
present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else
in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus
our Lord. Rom. 8:37-39 (We are saved and safe in might of God…)

8. Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God,
so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. Eph. 6:10&11
(Put on the full armor of God and be more than conquerors…)

May you know God’s blessings all-the-more in 2019…
