You can
take a DNA test to prove you are closely related to your mother and father. Similarly, DNA tests
can show how closely related we are to chimps and other apes. DNA shows that we are very
closely related to chimps, next to gorillas and then to Orangs. We know this because DNA
changes over time and with mitochondrial DNA we can calculate the approximate time of the
last common ancestor. The only difference with humans and other great apes is arbitrary. I
