Engineering Division – Systems Department – Piping & Materials Discipline

Metallurgist and Welding Engineer


This Position
• Reports to : Piping & Materials Discipline Manager
• Supervision of : Subcontractors when required

RESPONSIBILITIES (=) MAIN TASKS (+)

RESPONSIBILITIES
= Coordinate, execute and control the Metallurgical and Welding activities in Projects and/or
proposals in accordance with Project requirements within the assigned budget, time
schedule and quality standards.
= Assist in the outsourcing management; implement the Client working instructions and KPI
application.
= Responsible for man-hours and monitoring cost impacts of technological solutions
associated to project development.
= Specify, monitor, and advise on all materials, metallurgical, fabrication and welding aspects
during engineering and construction project phases of various product types (FPSO, TMS,
PLEM and Calm Buoy).
= Provide global support to Client to ensure that industry standards are met. The range of
services includes manufacturers and product technical qualifications, specification
development, specialist technical advice and failure investigations.
= Ensure that manufacturers, construction yards and suppliers comply with Clients
requirements and applicable International rules, codes, standards and procedures.
= Ensure the capitalization of Project experience in order to improve and harmonize work,
Methodologies through the continuous improvement and best practices.
= Identify tools for adequate efficiency improvement.

MAIN TASKS
+ Reviews the Client technical documentation and all relevant legislation, standards and
codes requirements.
+ Participates to the engineering man-hours estimation for the metallurgical and welding
activities.
+ Complies with the Group Technical Standards and GEMS processes, raises comments and
deviations when necessary,
+ Participates to the definition of the metallurgical and welding activities list of deliverables,
time schedule and controls activities in accordance with Contract requirements.
+ Participates to the technical documentation preparation for Discipline engineering activities
subcontracting.
+ Provides assistance to the Engineering disciplines on material selection, testing and
inspection requirements, welding requirements, applicable codes and standards etc…
+ Ensures quality and compliance of materials in equipment packages and adherence to

applicable project specifications.
+ Interfaces with Client, Subcontractors and Yard for resolution of metallurgy and welding
issues, as required.
+ Carries out technical audits and evaluations dedicated to materials aspects of bulk material/
equipment Suppliers and Subcontractors, including qualification programs.
+ Reviews the materials deliverables produced by bulk material/ equipment Suppliers and
Subcontractors.
+ Advises on materials, welding, fabrication and metallurgical matters, as required.
+ Assists material failure investigations and engineering assessments as required.
+ Suggests suitable actions to prevent, adsorb or minimize any deviations in terms of time
and costs.
+ Collects Project Lessons Learned for continuous improvement implementation.
+ Keeps abreast of relevant developments / tools for metallurgical and welding activities and
initiate methodologies improvements.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Work experience 15 years if possible
• Engineering degree:
o ESSA Ecole Supérieure du Soudage et de ses Applications,
o Ecole Polytechnique de Nantes (Material specialty),
o B. Eng (Hons) degree in Engineering
o Or any other equivalent school
• International Welding Engineer diploma (IWE) or European Welding Engineer diploma (EWE)
or Chartered engineer (UK), desirable
• Must be autonomous, and with good team spirit.
• Ability to communicate efficiently, and to provide technical leadership and technical
supervision
• Ability to manage several activities in parallel, combined with flexibility and strong organization
• Good level of English, both written and spoken
• Advanced knowledge of metallurgy, materials processing especially casting and forging,
welding and joining, non-destructive testing and of Materials Codes and Standards (ASME,
API, ASTM, etc.)
• Knowledge in coating applicable to marine environment is a plus.
