Under generation of computers in each generation explain about Component,
Computer hardware, Computer software, I/O Devices and Programming
Languages
Types of computers:
Computers are classified based on (1) technology and (2) size.
(1) Based on technology, computers can be classified into three types: (a) Analog
computers (b) Digital computers (c) Hybrid computers. The faculty should explain the
main features and purpose of usage with examples.
(2) Based on size, computers can be classified into (a) Palmtop(PDA) (b) Laptop (c)
Desktop (d) Micro Computers (e) Mini Computers (f) Mainframe Computers(work
stations) (g) Super Computers (First Indian Super Computer – Param. First Super
Computer in the World - Paragon)
(Provide the measurement units of speed for Super Computer) (fastest and latest
Super Computer names)
Types of Memory:
(1) Memory is of two types (A) Primary Memory (B) Secondary Memory
Primary Memory: Explain (a) RAM (Static, Dynamic, SD) (b) ROM (PROM,
EPROM, EEPROM) (c) Cache Memory (d) Virtual Memory
Secondary Memory: External Storages - Floppy, CD, DVD, Hard disk USB and their
capacities
(2) Explain Bit, Byte, KB, MB, GB TB., with the configuration of the computers
including the Hard Disk capacity, RAM capacity, and speed of the computer. Disk
access time (seek time, latency time)
(3) Explain the conversion of number systems (Binary, Octal, Decimal, Duo Decimal,
Hexa decimal) [explain one example for converting decimal to binary and vice versa].
(4) Character Representation (ASCII, EBCDIC, Unicode etc.)
(5) Flip flops (R-S, J-K, T, D) and Registers (AC, MAR, MBR, PC, IR) – Only the
definitions should be explained.
Networking :
(1) Explain Networking and types of Networks LAN, WAN, MAN, Intranet, Extranet,
Network of Networks (Internet), VPN’s
(2) Explain types of topologies (star, ring, bus, tree, mesh etc)
(3) Categories of n/w (Peer –to-peer, server-based)
(4) Explain in short OSI, TCP/IP refernce models.
(5) Explain cables (co-axial, twisted pair, UTP, STP, OFC) and usage. (Areas of
application)
(6) Explain Ethernet (Token ring, FDDI)
(7) Define protocol, Expand - PPP, FTP, NFS, SMTP, HTTP, IPX/SPX, NIC, WAP,
TELNET
(8) Explain hubs, repeaters, switch, bridges, routers, modem, address classes,
ip addressing
Internet:
(1) Explain chat rooms, instant message, blogs, faq, ISP, news group, URL, web
browsers, web sites, ISP, Modem, Social Networking.
(2) Explain IE and terminology of latest related technology (Wi -fi., Bluetooth )
(3) Explain about DNS, WWW.
(4) Explain virus (and its full form, types of virus), worms, anti-virus, firewalls, spam,
spam preventions, junk mails, encryption, authentication, compression (used
software).
DBMS :
(1) Definitions of - data, information, fields, record, table, file, schema, attributes, E-R
model, DBMS features, various keep used in DBMS.
(2) Types of DBMS (Hierarchial, Network, Relational, Object Oriented)
(3) Features of RDBMS, file structures (sequential, random, indexed), normalization,
query
(4) Types of SQL commands (DDL, DML, DCL, TML)
(5) Give definition of data ware house and data mining

(3) Explain e-procurement, click through rate etc.
Class -V (MS Word, MS Excel and MS Powerpoint)
(4) Explain briefly the Features of Outlook, One Note, InfoPath, Publisher, Front Page
etc.
Note : Cover this entire class/All the above mentioned topics with Ms Office 2003 and Ms
office 2007 specification features.
Note : Please start any of the above Computer Classes with basics for a Time interval of 1 hr
to 1 hr 10 Minutes and after that, go for handout explanation.
