Kaabah

I. Read the text to answer the questions

The Kaabah is a very holy place for Muslims. The Kaabah is a building inside the wall of the
Sacred Mosque in Mecca. The Kaabah is about 12 m long, 10 m wide and 16 m high. The Kaabah
has a cover of black cloth. Every year there is a new cover. On it there are writings from the
Koran in pure gold. The name of this cover is Kiswah.
The Kaabah was built by the Prophet Adam. Adam was the first Prophet of God. Latter the
Prophet Ibrahim and Ismail built it again.
All Muslims know the direction of Kaabah. The word for this direction in the Arabic
language is Qiblah. Muslims in Malaysia know it. Muslims in New York and London know it.
Muslims in New Delhi and Jakarta know it. When Muslims pray five times a day, they all face
towards the Kaabah in Mecca.

UNIT 3
Prayer
I. Read the text to answer the questions

Muslims believe in one God, Allah. They believe in the Holy Prophet, Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah.
Allah gave His Message to Muhammad. The message is in the Holy Koran.
Muslims don’t worship Muhammad. They worship Allah. They worship Allah five times a day.
This is every Muslim’s duty. When Muslims pray, they face towards the Mecca is in Saudi Arabia.
On Friday all Muslims must go to the mosque. They perform Friday prayer. Before praying together,
Muslims should listen to the speech. The speech is given by the preacher. In his speech, he reads the
messages of Allah in Al Qur’an then tries to explain the meaning and how to implement them in the daily
life. It usually takes about 20 to 25 minutes.
After the speech is over, the prayer begins. The imam leads the prayer. There are two rakaats in
Friday prayer. It takes them about 8 minutes to perform the Friday prayer.
Muslim have to perform fasting. They do it in the fasting month. They do not eat or drink from the
dawn till the sun set. The fasting sometimes takes them for about 29 days and sometimes 30 days. After
fasting, they celebrate it by reciting the laudation of Allah “Allahu Akbar” on the eve of the Idul Fitri Day.
The next morning most of Muslim go to fields or mosques to perform the Idul Fitri prayer. In the mosque,
they listen to the speech by the preacher then perform the prayer.
On that day Muslims celebrate the Idul Fitri by visiting their neighbors and relatives. They feel very
happy because it is the day they apologize each other.
