La Infiltración es el proceso de paso del agua a través de la superficie del suelo hacia el
interior de la tierra. Este concepto hay que distinguirlo del Percolación, que es el
movimiento del agua dentro del suelo.
Hasta ahora las componentes del Ciclo Hidrológico que se han descrito correspondían a las
componentes superficiales.
Infiltration is the process of passing water through the surface of the soil to the interior of
the earth. This concept must be distinguished from Percolation, which is the movement of
water within the soil.
Both phenomena are related, since the Infiltration can not continue freely until the
Percolation has removed water from the upper layers of the soil.
Both the Infiltration and the movement in the unsaturated zone are due to similar physical
processes that are linked by the hydrodynamic conditions of the terrain, in such a way that
there is a vertical movement of the water, and even sub horizontal (Hypodermic Runoff),
which determines the recharge that the aquifer receives.
Until now, the components of the Hydrological Cycle that have been described
corresponded to the surface components.
La infiltración está gobernada por dos fuerzas: la gravedad y la acción capilar. Los poros
muy pequeños empujan el agua por la acción capilar además de contra la fuerza de la
gravedad. La tasa de infiltración se ve afectada por características del suelo como la
facilidad de entrada, la capacidad de almacenaje y la tasa de transmisión por el suelo.
