♥ Beatitudes
The word Beatitude (bē-ˈa-tə-tüd) comes from the Latin word "beatus" and it means
“blessed.”

The Beatitudes are the beginning of a sermon that Jesus preached called the Sermon on
the Mount. A multitude of people followed Jesus and he taught them using the word
blessed over and over again.

Poor in spirit is not the same as being poor in material possessions. It means that you
need God, and look to him as the supplier of all your needs.

Mourn means to express grief or sorrow; to grieve; to be sorrowful.

Meek means mild of temper; gentle; not easily provoked or irritated; yielding; given to

Righteousness means purity of heart; free from guilt or sin.

Merciful means compassion for others; tender; not cruel.

Pure in heart means free from sin. Sin pollutes the heart but when we
confess our sin to God he forgives us and gives us a clean, pure heart.

Peacemaker means one who makes peace by reconciling parties that are in
disagreement.

Persecuted means to be harassed or punished for religious belief.

The Beatitudes are for those who desire to be more like Jesus. The person that Jesus is
describing has different character qualities than those who are not putting their trust in
him for their salvation.
