LESSON 3 – AM EXERCISES
a) Calculate the following parameters of this modulated AM signal displayed in the time domain:
1.- Maximum peak to peak amplitude of the modulated signal (Amax.)
b) Knowing that the frequency of the carrier signal (fc) is 1 Mhz, Vc = 2V and Vm = 0.5 V deduce the
equation of the modulated signal (𝑉𝐴𝑀 ).
c) Radio Nacional de España in AM broadcasts at the frequency of 855 Khz from Torres de Cotillas to
Murcia; knowing that the bandwidth of the modulating signal is from 300 to 3400 Hz, get:
d) Based on this example, draw the spectre corresponding to the Radio Nacional station shown
before.

e) Look at the following figures. Determine what type of AM modulation is used in commercial AM
radio of Onda Media, as well as the separation between stations. Frequencies used in european Onda
Media are in kHz

LESSON 3 – FM EXERCISES
a) Calculate the modulation index of an FM signal if the maximum frequency deviation is 50 KHz and
the modulating frequency is 5 Khz.
b) The carrier signal frequency of an FM transmitter is 1000 KHz. If the modulating frequency is 15
KHz, draw the first three upper and lower signals that we would see in a Spectrum Analyzer
c) The carrier signal frequency of a FM transmitter is 100 MHz and the FM modulating signal is15
KHz. If the maximum frequency deviation is 75 KHz, calculate the channel bandwidth (BW). BW = 2
(max frequency deviation + fm)
d) In a FM signal the deviation constant k = 75 KHz / V and the amplitude of the modulating signal
(Am) is 2 V. Calculate the maximum deviation. Fmax deviation=kAm
