Research scientific method: a. What are the steps of each? ➢ 1. Identify a problem. 2. Research. 3. Form a hypothesis. 4. Plan an experiment. 5. Perform the experiment. 6. Analyze data that was gathered. 7. Form a conclusion. 8. Communicate results. b. Why do we need it? ➢ To get an accurate, correct, and precise answer to a specific question. c. What makes a test valid? ➢ Constant terms and values with a control and a test ➢ Replicable results
Start working on each part of the scientific method For your introduction make sure you answer: a. What is homeostasis? ➢ Homeostasis is the tendency towards an equilibrium between interdependent elements, maintained by physiological processes. b. How does your specific way of homeostasis work? ➢ Regulation of body temperature starts in the hypothalamus. It checks the body’s current temperature and compares it to the normal 37 degrees celsius. The regulation of body temperature in our body keeps us at a relatively stable level. If our body temperature is too high, then our sweat glands produce more sweat which carries heat with it when it evaporates, cooling your body. If our body temperature is too low, our muscles tighten up, and goosebumps occur. The tightening of muscles reduces the effects of convection (loss of heat into the atmosphere), and the goosebumps make our hairs stand on end, creating a thicker barrier to hold in heat. c. What organs are involved? ➢ Temperature regulation is generated mostly in the deep organs, such as the liver, brain, and heart, and in contraction of skeletal muscles. d. What hormones are involved? ➢ Hormones such as epinephrine, norepinephrine, and the thyroid hormone are involved in temperature regulation. e. What reaction does your body do? ➢ If you need to cool down, you sweat which cools your skin as it evaporates. This helps to lower your internal temperature. When you need to warm up, your skin triggers shivering and goosebumps so the blood vessels will contract and keep you as warm as possible.
