Work Experience
TUTOR | BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB| JANUARY 2019- MAY 2019
· At the Boys and Girls Club I am in charge of working in the tutoring room. Children are allowed to come in and out of the
tutoring room whenever they want to read, play educational games on the iPad, or need help with homework.

PRESCHOOL ASSISTANT | DUBUQUE YMCA | AUGUST 2018- JANUARY 2019

· At the Preschool I would help in the three year old classroom. We would work on basic skills, just as lining up and
learning numbers and letters. We would also practice life skills, such as learning how to pour cups for snack and lunch.
STUDENT SUCCESS MENTOR | LORAS COLLEGE | AUGUST 2018- DECEMBER 2018
· At Loras College each first year student is required to take a class called Modes of Inquiry. This class teaches first years
basic college knowledge, such as how to access different online sites, use library references, how to write a scholarly
paper, etc. My job was not only to help a professor teach them these academic tools, but it is also my responsibility to
help them adjust to life in college. I helped them learn and enroll in other organizations on campus, how to
communicate with professors and coaches, as well as be a friend to them if they ever need one. Since starting this role in
August, I have grown extremely as a teaching professional. I have started to understand firsthand the frustrations that
may come with teaching, but more importantly, I have been able to grow as an individual with my students. They have
taught me patience. They have taught me understanding. They have helped me go outside myself to realize that not all
students function like I do. While this job has taught me valuable teaching lessons as well as experience in front of
students, it has taught me the value of rapport with students and the importance of relationships.

LEAD STAFF | ROCKFORD PARK DISTRICT | 2014-CURRENT

· Through the park district I was employed at Learn to Play Sports Camp in downtown Rockford. At camp I am able to
make staff schedules, plan the days’ events, work with a community lunch program, and coach children in numerous
sports.

Why Me…
Loras College has blessed me with a plethora of opportunities that I have never once taken
for granted. As a senior in high school, I had committed to Loras in January. I was one of the
first in my class to make my post high school plans official. I did this because I just knew. I
knew Loras was the college for me, and I knew I would excel here. Unfortunately, I was
hospitalized in the summer of 2015. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, and my
symptoms were so severe that the doctor did not allow me to come to Loras my first
semester. Luckily, I was able to work and take classes at Rock Valley Community College.
These classes transferred to Loras College, and I was able to work hard and stay at the
same credit level as my peers. This life changing diagnosis rocked my world. My whole life
had to adjust to one of my organs not working properly. Because of this, I learned the true
value of time. Time is something so special that we literally will never get back. Since then, I
have been making the most of my time here at Loras. I feel I am involved in many extra
curriculars, and I often never say no to anything asked of me. I take each opportunity and
do my best with it. Because of this mentality, I feel I have excelled at Loras, and I know I
will be prepared to excel in my future career as a teacher. I would be an asset to this school
district because I have copious amounts of experience in working with children of all ages. I
love education, and I love learning! I work hard at any and all jobs or tasks put before me,
and I know that being a teacher will continue to serve as more experience for me to become
the best I can be.
