Product Overview

1 Product Overview

This document describes the EM-CES/63xE1/T1-LFH-AH Unit, ROA 128

3650/1. Figure 1 shows the unit.

EM-CES/63xE1/T1-LFH-AH Unit Description

1.1 Purpose
The EM-CES/63xE1/T1-LFH-AH Unit, ROA 128 3650/1 is an Expansion
Modules (EMs) that is used in conjunction with the Service Module (SM)
CES/2xSTM1-63xPDH-A, ROA 128 3722/1.

Basically, the EM-CES/63xE1/T1-LFH-AH Unit, ROA 128 3650/1 provides

physical connections for the non-channelized 63 E1 signals managed by the
SM-CES/2xSTM1-63xPDH-A Unit, ROA 128 3722/1.

Note: The E1/T1 circuits to be emulated from the EM-CES/63xE1/T1-LFH-AH

Unit, ROA 128 3650/1 are available from two sources: channelized
via an STM interface on the front of the card (front-plug) or direct via
the EM-CES/63xE1/T1-LFH-AH Unit, ROA 128 3650/1 (rear-plug).

E1 backplane links connect the EM slot to two different SM slots, without the
need of using a different EM for equipment protection purpose.

The unit provide the following functionality:

• 2 D-Sub female connectors (160 pins each) for terminating 63 E1 signals.

• LED indicators

• Inventory EEPROM

• Local power supply

Caution!
Because of substantial differences in the adaptation block (refer to Section
2 on page 3), EM-CES/63xE1/T1-LFH-AH Unit, ROA 128 3650/1 and
EM-63xE1-LFH Unit, ROA 128 3621 cannot be used for the same
applications. EM-CES/63xE1/T1-LFH-AH Unit, ROA 128 3650/1
must be used exclusive in conjunction with the Service Module (SM)
CES/2xSTM1-63xPDH-A, ROA 128 3722/1 and the EM-63xE1-LFH Unit,
ROA 128 3621 must be used exclusive in conjunction with the SM-63xE1
Unit, ROA 219 1105. In case the wrong EM is used, the Operator will receive
the "Installed but not expected" compliance, and the EM will be declared
out-of-service.

1.2 Variants
This unit has been introduced initially in OMS 1400 Release 3.0. No other
variant exists.

Figure 2 EM-CES/63xE1/T1-LFH-AH Block Diagram

The balanced signal pair (two single-wire unbalanced lines), relevant to the
E1 channel, is connected to the backplane through transformer coupling
(Impedance Adaptation block).

Each SCM communicates with the SM and EM (eventually) via independent I2C
busses so that, the SM and EM (eventually) implement an I2C MUX device for
selecting those one only relevant to the active SCM resource.

Note: I2C bus is used also for accessing inventory data (stored into an
E2PROM), and other devices (if any).

Interfaces

The power supply module converts the -48V reference voltage from the
redounded battery lines into +3,3V and 1,8V voltages necessary for the internal
components.

3 Dimensions

Table 1 shows the dimensions of the unit.

The board occupies one slot.

Note: EM-CES/63xE1/T1-LFH-AH Unit, ROA 128 3650/1 is supplied with

proper E1 cables. There are two types of cables used:

• a 60 degree connector left open ended at the Patch Panel end (for
applications where no patch panel is used)

• cable with connectors at each end (RPM 119 0235/*), one

straight connector (patch panel end) and one 90 degree connector
(subrack end).

The cable type used depends on whether a patch panel is fitted (for
example, the Ericsson Patch Panel 32xE1-LFH-1.0/2.3, BGK 901
3811).
