ABSTRACT

of Marine Tourism in Ambon City - Maluku Province. Under the Supervision of
Lachmudin Sya'rani as Promoter ; Aziz Nur Bambang as Co Promoter I, and
Supriharyono as Co Promoter II.

Ambon as the capital city of Maluku province the potential of marine resources and fisheries
major. Geographically the city is situated on the island of Ambon at coordinates 3º-4º LS and 128º-
129º BT with a Region area : 769.29 km2 (including marine areas 4 miles), Land area : 359.45 km2,
Sea area : 409.84 km2, Coastal Zone Area : 28292.89 Ha and Shorelines length : 102.78 km. One form
management of fisheries and marine resources that can be developed in the Ambon city is through
marine objects and tourist attraction. The potential beauty of the beach, panoramic view of the
underwater world, ornamental fish, coral reefs, white sand and other marine life found around Ambon
island into a tourist attraction quality. The problem that occurs is not its integrated management of
marine tourism in the region Ambon. Participated city agencies, the private sector, local communities
and other tourism stakeholders have not been fully implemented. The development of tourism in the
city of Ambon remains piecemeal so the ability to empower local communities with their local
knowledge is still very limited.
The purpose of this research were: To assess and find a model of community participation that
perception, aspiration and action community in community-based management of marine tourism in
the Ambon city ; To provide a model relationship between perception and willingness to pay (WTP)
towards personal factors of tourists, tourist demand and the number of tourists traveled as an
intervening variable ; To provide an assessment of the physical carrying capacity and environmental
capacity of marine tourism in the city of Ambon ; and last to find a marine tourism management
strategy to actively involve communities according to the characteristics of local communities in the
city of Ambon. This study is a survey, the data collected was analyzed using SEM (Structural Equation
Modeling), Path Analysis with SEM Amos 19.00, Physical Carrying Capacity (PCC), Patch Capacity,
SWOT Analysis and AHP.
The results showed that : 1) community participation in the management of marine tourism
classified as " Highly Supports " and is influenced by personal factors of society, physical and non-
physical aspects of marine tourism destination. 2) Tourist perceptions willingness to pay is high but
travelers on the environment, especially marine tourism enjoyed by the existence value and value of
inheritance (bequest value) were moderate. Factors affecting tourists are personal aspects, aspects of
tourism demand and the number of tourist arrivals. 3) Coastal beach town of Ambon potential as a
marine tourism destination with the physical carrying capacity of the environment is quite good and a
capacity large enough and still need to be improved for tourists visiting. 4) There are nine (9) marine
tourism management strategy of community-based Ambon city government needs to be run with four
(4) main criteria prioritized : Marine Tourism Institutional Management ; Utilization of Public
Enterprises Management ; Social Culture Empowerment of Local Community and Conservation of
Marine Environment Management. Based on the results obtained, the management of marine tourism
in the city of Ambon should be given high priority by improving bureaucratic government to related
the welfare of the local community with develop facilities and infrastructure are more qualified .
