Sanguine - Luc Tuymans On Baroque

Fondazione Prada 2018 ISBN 9788887029741 Acqn 29275
Hb 21x28cm 240pp 157ills 120col £45

"Sanguine" is a personal interpretation of the Baroque based on innovative juxtapositions and

unexpected associations of works by contemporary artists and Old Masters. Avoiding a rigid
chronological order or a strictly historiographical approach, Tuymans evades the traditional notion
of the Baroque and invites viewers to reconsider 17th century art, as well as the contemporary
research, by placing artists and their role in society at the centre of the exhibition narrative.

Machines a Penser
Fondazione Prada 2018 ISBN 9788887029727 Acqn 29236
Pb 13x17cm 564pp 255col ills £38

"Machines a penser" focuses on three major philosophers of the 20th century: Theodor W.
Adorno (1903-1969), Martin Heidegger (1889-1976) and Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951). The
latter two shared a life-long need for intellectual isolation: Heidegger spent long periods of his life
in a secluded hut in the village of Todtnauberg in the Black Forest in Germany, whilst
Wittgenstein retreated on several occasions to a small mountain cabin situated in a fjord in
Skjolden, Norway. Adorno, on the other hand, was forced into exile from his native Germany
during by the Nazi regime, first to Oxford and then to Los Angeles, where he wrote Minima
Moralia, a collection of aphorisms that also reflects on the fate of forced emigration. These
reflections inspired the installation conceived by the Scottish artist and poet Ian Hamilton Finlay in
1987 titled Adorno's Hut, a centrepiece of the exhibition alongside architectural reconstructions of
the actual huts of Heidegger and Wittgenstein.

Foreword by Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli; introductory essay by Dieter Roelstraete; critical
essays by Shumon Basar, Alec Finlay, Mark Riley; conversations between Leonor Antunes and
Chiara Costa, Alexander Kluge and Niccolo Gravina, Goshka Macuga and Mario Mainetti;
reprinted texts by Theodor Adorno, Martin Heidegger, Ludwig Wittgenstein, San Gerolamo.

5K Confinement
Fondazione Prada 2018 ISBN 9788887029680 Acqn 29276
Pb 13x17cm 144pp 102ills 62col £22.50

"Belligerent Eyes | 5K Confinement" is a pioneering project on contemporary image production.

Conceived and designed by Luigi Alberto Cippini and developed in collaboration with film director
Giovanni Fantoni Modena, "Belligerent Eyes" sets itself as an experimental media research
facility geared in the spaces of Fondazione Prada's Venetian venue, Ca' Corner della Regina.

With "Belligerent Eyes" Fondazione Prada, restlessly searching for new grounds of confrontation
on cinema and visual languages, experiments with new forms of collaboration, analysis and
research. "Belligerent Eyes" was born out the Fondazione's will to create a reciprocally
stimulating exchange with younger generations working in the realms of cinema and visual arts
research and production, enabling them to work in complete autonomy and freedom. This new
relationship has marked independence as the core of such an artistic collaboration, offering the
Fondazione the opportunity to re-invent the expressions of its cultural commitment.
