Example 1 :
I need to lay 80 cat 5 cables. I want to save 30% of the cable tray for my future needs. What cable tray should I
use ?
Answer :
1. Insert 80 in the F6 cell
2. Select the "Cat 5" type of cable
3. Insert 70% in the N20 cell. This way only the acceptable cable trays will appear in green. The underdesigned
cable trays will be red.
Example 2 :
I intend to use a CF 54/300, but I want to reserve 20% of it for my future installation. How many power cables
can I lay in it ?

This calculation is based upon the square of the outside diameter of the cable (D) multiplied by the total number of cables to be used (N) :
Area of cables = N x D²
Example :
Cable outside diameter : 0.18 in.
Total number of cables needed : 100
The total cross sectional area of the cables will be calculated as 100 x 0.18² = 3.24 sqin.
This calculation method takes into account to some extent the natural cable "Swell" that is experienced when cables are placed in a tray. This
calculation assumes that the cable is a geometric square instead of a circle and yields an area approximately 28% greater than that of a circular
area calculation.
