Instructional Software
In order to introduce Possessives, a BrainPop video introducing Possessives will be shown to students. The
teacher will provide more examples of Possessives on the board to ensure students understand the concept.
After teacher checks students’ comprehension of Possessives briefly, the teacher will explain the activity on
BrainPop that students will complete. Within the “Creative Coding” tab on BrainPop, students will complete
the “story” project. Students will create their own story with dialogue using Possessives. Students can
customize their own stories using figures, text, and backgrounds.

A rubric or checklist will be used to guide students as they complete their story. After completion of students’
story, students will peer edit stories to ensure requirements are met as well as overall layout of the story.
After stories are considered finished products, students will present their stories to the class.

Reflective Practice:

This story layout on BrainPop can be used for several different types of lesson ideas. Students could make a
collection of different stories and put them together at the end of the semester to make some sort of
portfolio and present their portfolio to the class or to parents or staff.

Students could also create blogs at the beginning of the year and have this activity be one of their blog
entries.
