MEASURING LENGTH
Brief Lesson Plan in Mathematics

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the 60 minutes discussion, at least 80% of the students are expected to:
1. Identify the different instruments used in measuring length;
2. Convert metric unit to another unit, and
3. Relate the application of measuring length in everyday life.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. TOPIC: MEASURING LENGTH
B. TIME FRAME : 60 minutes
C. REFERENCES: E-Math: Elementary Algebra; Revised Edition by Oronce and
Mendoza, Pages 26-32, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6vca9PnlyI
D. INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: Laptop, projector or Led TV, Speaker
PowerPoint Presentation, measuring tool(ruler, tape measure, meter stick)
E. CONCEPT:
 Measure of length is the distance along a line or figure from one point to
another.
F. SKILLS: Critical Thinking and Analyzing
G. VALUE INTEGRATION: Cooperation, Respect, Participation and Obedience.
H. TEACHING STRATEGY: 4As (Activity, Analysis, Abstraction and Application)
III. LEARNING PROCEDURE
A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
1. Greetings
2. Opening Prayer
3. Classroom Management
4. Checking Of Attendance
5. Checking Of Assignment
B. RECALL
Recall about the History of Measurement.
C. MOTIVATION
They will have an activity called “wish you measure me using the parts of your body”.
The following are to be measure only by the body parts of the students:

D. PRESENTATION OF THE LESSON
She will make a connection on the activity and our lesson for today based on her
observation and ideas.

E. PRESENTATION OF THE LESSON OBJECTIVES

They will read the Lesson objectives that I have presented through the Power Point
Presentation, and I will remind them that it will serve as our guide in accomplishing the
lesson.
F. UNLOCKING OF TERMINOLOGIES
 Metric system- a series of measures whose units are derived from a fixed standard
called meter
 Meter- fundamental unit of length
 Metric- a system of measurement based on tens

G. LESSON PROPER

1. ACTIVITY
This time they will have an activity entitled “Find my Length”, using the different
measuring tool that s available in the classroom, like the ruler(made of kawayan), meter
stick(made of kawayan), tape measure, and carpenters measuring tape.
The following will be measured:

Measuring tool:_______________
Length:______________________

2. ANALYSIS
I will be checking their output.
3. ABSTRACTION

I will be presenting to them the different units in measuring the length and some
conversion tables.
Metric Units of Length
Multiple of
Symbol Unit
1 meter
km 1 kilometer 1000 m
hm 1 hectometer 100 m

dam 1 decameter 10 m

m 1 meter 1m
dm 1 decimeter 0.1 m

cm 1 centimeter 0.01 m

mm 1 millimeter 0.001 m

*Convert 4 feet to inches.

4 feet = _____ inches

*Convert 25 cm to mm.
25 cm = ____ mm
4. APPLICATION
On your notebook solve this real life problem.
Ramon started a 100m walk from their home to rustom’s house, another 150m to
Leonel’s house. If he will walk going to mariel’s house with a distance of .25km, what
will be the combined distance he walked in meter?

H. GENERALIZATION
They will now give their generalization on the lesson.
I. VALUES INTEGRATION
They will be sharing the values that they have realize learning the concept of measuring
length.

IV. EVALUATION
MULTIPLE CHOICE: Direction; Read & analyze each statement carefully and encircle the
letter corresponding to the correct answer.

1. Which of the following is NOT a tool used in measuring length?

a. Ruler b. thermometer c. tape measure d. meter stick
2. Convert: 8.69 km = ___ m
a. 869 m b. 8690 m c. 86900 m d. 869000 m
3. Convert: 25 cm = ___ mm
a. 25 mm b. 50 mm c. 250 mm d. 2500 mm
4. Convert: 1500 m = ___ km
a. 0.15 km b. 1.5 km c. 15 km d. 150 km
5. Convert: 10500 cm = ___ m
a. 1.05 m b. 10.5 m c. 105 m d. 1050 m

V. ASSIGNMENT

1. They will be measuring different things that they can find in their house and list them down on a
bond paper and will be submitted next meeting.
2. Have an advance reading on the topic “Measuring Mass and weight”.
