Presente Perfecto en Inglés

(Contracciones en parenteses)

Se usa el presente perfecto para describir una acción que empezó en el pasado y sigue
en el presente. Se forma con el verbo "have" más el participio del verbo ("lived" en el
ejemplo abajo).

I have lived in California for one year.

(He vivido en California por un año.)
También se puede usar para describir una acción que pasó en un tiempo inespecífico en
el pasado.

I have visited China.

(He visitado China.)

En el ejemplo arriba no especifico cuando pasó. Si especificara cuando pasó, tendría que
poner el verbo en el pasado.

I visited China last year.

(Visité China el año pasado.)

Nota: Se puede hacer una contracción del verbo "have" nada más con el presente
perfecto (cuando tiene el significado de "haber" - como he, has, han, etc.). No se puede
hacer una contracción del verbo "have" cuando tiene el signficado de "tener")

I've visited China.

(He visitado China.)

I have a computer.
(Tengo una computadora.)

I've a computer.
(incorrect)

ANGIE - Hello?
BRENDA - Hi, Angie?
ANGIE - Yeah?
BRENDA - This is Brenda, Brenda Rivers.
ANGIE - Brenda Rivers? I haven't seen you since high school. How have you been?
BRENDA - I've been great!
ANGIE - Are you still living in San Diego?
BRENDA - No. I moved to Chicago two years ago. I got a job at a big company here as a
writer for a fashion magazine.
ANGIE - Really?
BRENDA - Yeah. I've worked at Fashion Now magazine since I moved here.
ANGIE - Wow! That sounds like an exciting job.
BRENDA - Oh. It's great. I've always loved fashion. It's really exciting. I've met a lot of
famous designers already. Actually, I'm calling because I'm in love and I'm getting
married.
ANGIE - Wow! Good for you. How did you meet the guy?
BRENDA - He works for Fashion Now magazine too. He's a photographer. We're going to
get married in September and I want you to be the maid of honor.
ANGIE - Me? Wow! I'd love to.
BRENDA - You'll have to fly out here to get measured for a bridesmaid's dress.
ANGIE - Ok. I have some vacation time available. I could go next month.
BRENDA - Great! I'll show you around Chicago while you're here. You'll love it.
ANGIE - I've always wanted to see Chicago.
BRENDA - Well, I need to go. We're meeting with the pastor tonight to plan the
ceremony. E-mail me and let me know about your life. My e-mail is
brivers@fashionnow.com.
ANGIE - Ok. I can't wait to see you.

for ages = por mucho tiempo

catch up = ponerse al tanto de las cosas
