Sending out the newsletter a little early so that I can focus on the big game tonight! I
can’t tell you how special it is to be back in the “City of Champions” this year.
The 100th day of school is February 8th!! The labeled, gallon bags went home last
week. Please help your child collect 100 of something you have at home, and send it
in by Thursday, February 7th for a fun class activity. The collection can be anything
from buttons, to beads, to legos - get creative!
Valentine’s Day is also coming up! Please see a letter going home this week about
what you can send in to school.
The SOUPer Bowl of Caring has officially started. If every student brings in two cans
before February 15th, we will earn a special class surprise!
La contraseña secreta (secret password) to come into the classroom this week will
be “Todos somos amigos” (we are all friends).
A peek at our In Spanish Language Arts, students will be reading, writing
week and playing games with our “a syllable” words now in
sentences! I.e. “Papá nada. Mamá agarra la taza.” etc.
Our five “palabras de poder” are still: quiere, voy, sé, gusta,
ella. We will continue to practice recognizing and reading
the prior words as well!
In Math, we will continue our two month long, addition and
subtraction unit! Students will love making real-life
connections at home (i.e. If you have 4 apple slices and your
little sister have five apple slices, how many do you have all
together?)
In Social Emotional learning, we are going to be talking
about and practicing being “flexible thinkers.” Things don’t
always go our way and we need to have skills to be flexible.
Updates GERMS! They are here and we are working hard to keep
students healthy and in school. Thank you to the parents
who have sent in wipes - we will graciously continue to
accept them.
Friendly Please continue to send your child with boots, gloves, hats,
Reminders scarves and snow pants! Even as the temperature fluctuates,
we would rather have “more” than “less.” Even though we
may not have snow, we will certainly have mud! Students are
also welcome to keep a change of shoes or their snow pants
at school so that they don’t have so much to carry on a daily
basis.
If your child is sick or will be absent, please continue to email

and the school (ch_attendance@wayland.k.12) so that
everyone is in the loop!
Incorporating 1. Play our version of “I spy” - “Veo veo” In class we have one
more Spanish at student come up and say the bolded text and the class
home chants the responses below.
“Veo veo” - I see
“¿Que ves?” - what do you see?
“Una cosa” - something
“¿De que color?” - what color is it?
“De color…. rojo/amarillo/morado/azul/blanco/negro/etc” -
the color of the object
Next, students begin to guess what the child has “spied” - if
they guess correctly, they get to be in charge the next round!
2. Practice winter clothing vocabulary at home: guantes,
mitones, abrigo/chaqueta, botas, bufanda, gorro, etc.
3. Take advantage of any opportunity to count in Spanish!
Many students are now naturally defaulting to Spanish
numbers when counting - awesome to see! Practicing
counting “up” 1-30 as well as “down” 30-1. Counting by tens is
also an “end of year goal” for kindergarten: diez (10), veinte
(30), treinta (30), cuarenta (40), cincuenta (50), sesenta (60),
setenta (70), ochenta (80), noventa (90), cien (100).
4. Encourage students to use the past “contraseñas secretas”
with you at home! Previous contraseñas: Gracias, por favor,
buenos días, puedo ir al baño, puedo tomar agua, permiso,
buenas tardes, me gusta, no me gusta, feliz año nuevo, yo
tengo hambre, tengo sed, hace frío, hace calor.

Current week: quiere, voy, sé, gusta, ella
