Torque Converter Outlet Relief Valve

SMCS - 3101-011; 3101-012; 3101-015; 3101-016

Remove Torque Converter Outlet Relief Valve

START BY:

a. remove lower cab shrouds (right hand shroud only) *

This operation is in Vehicle Systems Disassembly And Assembly section.

NOTE: The torque converter outlet relief valve is located on the right side of the torque converter.

1. Drain the transmission oil.

2. Remove four bolts (1), and remove right hand panel assembly (2).

3. Remove four bolts (4), and disconnect tube assembly (3) from the outlet relief valve.

4. Remove the bolt, and disconnect the clip that holds wire assembly (5) to outlet relief valve (7).

5. Remove the other two bolts (6), and remove outlet relief valve (7) from the torque converter.

Install Torque Converter Outlet Relief Valve

1. Make sure the O-ring seals are installed on outlet relief valve (3), and put clean transmission oil
on them.

2. Put outlet relief valve (3) in position on the torque converter, and install two lower bolts (2) that
hold it.

3. Install the bolt, and connect the clip that holds wire assembly (1) to the outlet relief valve.

4. Make sure the O-ring seal is installed in the tube assembly, and put clean transmission oil on it.

5. Install four bolts (5), and connect tube assembly (4) to the outlet relief valve.

6. Put right hand panel assembly (7) in position on the machine, and install four bolts (6) that hold
it.

7. Fill the transmission with oil to the correct level. See the Maintenance Guide.

Disassemble Torque Converter Outlet Relief Valve

START BY:

a. remove torque converter outlet relief valve

1. Remove O-ring seals (1) from relief valve (2).

2. Remove bolts (5) and (6). Remove covers (3) and (4) and the O-ring seals from the relief valve.

3. Remove spring (9), spacers (8) and valve spool (7) from relief valve (2).

4. Remove ring (13), retainer (12), spring (11) and poppet (10) from valve spool (7).

Assemble Torque Converter Outlet Relief Valve

1. Make sure all of the parts of the relief valve are clean and free of dirt and foreign material. Put
clean oil on all the parts at assembly.

2. Install poppet (1), spring (2), retainer (3) and ring (4) in valve spool (5). Make sure the shoulder
on retainer (3) is toward spring (2) when it is installed.

NOTE: Spacers (6) are used to make an adjustment to the pressure needed to open the torque
converter outlet relief valve. See Power Shift Transmission Testing And Adjusting for the correct
pressure setting.

3. Install valve spool (5), spacers (6) and spring (7) in valve body (8) as shown.

4. Install O-ring seals (10) and covers (9) and (11) on the ends of valve body (8).

5. Install O-ring seals (12) and (13) in valve body (8).

END BY:

a. install torque converter outlet relief valve
