Nitol Motors Ltd., one of the major concerns of the conglomerate, began its journey in
1983, quickly becoming an important marketer of commercial vehicles in Bangladesh.
In 1989, Nitol Motors Ltd. became the sole distributor of TATA vehicles in
Bangladesh. Since then, it never had to look back as it is currently the market leader in
this sector.

Putting forward its motto "One History-One Brand One Industry", Nitol Niloy Group
has grown to become the largest seller of commercial vehicles in the country. The
company has a formidable presence in a wide range of product markets, while it also
operates in the service sector. The diversity of its market presence is apparent in its
marketing of mass-sold products like commercial vehicles as well as its being in the
notably niche market of helicopter transportation services.

TELCO and NITOL for assembly of TATA vehicles in Bangladesh. This company is
the flagship enterprise of Nitol Group and is in the business of assembling commercial
vehicles. Chassis of trucks, buses and minibuses that are imported in completely
knocked down condition (CKD) are assembled by this company. It is currently one of
the leading vehicles assembling organizing corporations in the country.

2.3 Journey of Tata Motors in Bangladesh:

Nitol-Niloy Group, importer of Tata vehicles in Dhaka, has invited Tata Motors to set
up Tata Ace assembling unit in Bangladesh to cater to north-eastern India and Myanmar
markets.

Abdul Matlub Ahmad, Chairman, Nitol-Niloy Group, wants Tata Motors to leverage
their existing JV, Nita Co, to add the assembling unit. Nita Co, the sole distributor of
Tata Motors’ trucks in Bangladesh, has an assembling unit for medium and heavy-duty
vehicles.

According to Matlub, a mere 25 per cent localisation can help the JV to earn 20 per cent
export subsidy on engineering products. This, coupled with zero-duty imports to India,
can make Bangladesh a cheaper destination for Tata Motors to source original
equipment for Indian operations. “It would be more viable, both logistically and
production-cost wise, if Tata Motors can leverage the Bangladesh facility to cater to the
North-East of India and also to Myanmar,” he told reporters on the sidelines of CII’s
eastern regional meeting here.

In case Tata Motors agrees to this arrangement, Ahmad will have to add a capacity of
nearly 50,000 vehicles annually. Investments towards capacity expansion in
Bangladesh will be made by the Nitol-Niloy Group.

15 | P a g e
With an exemplary portfolio and an extensive expanse of cars, trucks and buses, we are
undoubtedly the most widely known automotor brand across the globe. We entered the
Bangladesh car market in 1972 and have made commendable strides since. Timely
launches like the Tata Indigo eCS, the Manza and the Vista in 2012 found favour with
Bangladesh’s new car market while in 2015, the introduction of four new next-
generation heavy commercial vehicles from the Prima range left a lasting impact on the
car market.

Here is the listed of a few noteworthy facts about Tata Motors journey in
Bangladesh :

Fact No. 1: Tata Motors Car Segment Market Share jumped from 5th to 1st position in
last 3 years in Bangladesh.

Fact No. 2: Tata Motors is currently ranked 1st in New Vehicle Market Share-Car
Segment in Bangladesh. This is despite the fact that Bangladesh is nearly a 100%
automatic car market.

Fact No. 3: Bangladesh, which is smaller than the Indian state of Odisha in terms of
area, has Tata Motors Bangladesh present in 36 locations. This extensive reach is for
the sole purpose of satisfying the demand for our automotors. Bangladesh has a varied
topography that accommodates premium cars with the same fervor as it embraces a
sturdy pick up truck.

Fact No. 4: Ministry of Health in Bangladesh bought a fleet of 56 Sumo ambulances in

2016. Against the background of an established player in the transport segment, we
decided to create an automotor that tended to the needs of the people. It was a blend of
both superior motor design and a contribution towards the health services in the
country. An ambulance is a primary means of commute in times of crisis, thus
contributing to this would account for a sizable difference.

16 | P a g e
Fact No. 5: We are a preferred brand owing to our technology-driven, fuel efficient
models. Furthermore, our longstanding association with this country has given us a
remarkable acumen into the commuting preferences of the people. Keeping this at the
center of our focus, we build automobiles that are conducive to the Bangladesh terrain.

Recent Developments:
Recent developments The company has recently acquired a sugar mill in Kaliachapra
as well as a paper mill in Sylhet, from the government. This paper mill has acquired a
70tonne capacity paper production setup from Scotland, capable of 60-350 gm paper
production.
It has also started its work to launch operations in the footwear and denim industries.
Recently the company launched NITS Service, a company providing human and
vehicle tracking services on a commercial basis. Using this service, any vehicle or any
person with a mobile phone can be pinpointed.

Promotion:
Nitol Niloy Group believes in relationship marketing. Its customer relationship has
helped the company grow through word-of-mouth promotion, which enabled it to
expand its operations nationwide and into so many sectors. In remote rural regions,
where mobile communication is only just beginning to grow, Nitol Niloy Group's
reliance on viral marketing proved to be a crucial strategy behind the success. The
company also uses heavy trade promotion tools, offering higher than industry-standard
profit sharing programs to its marketing partners. At the same time, it provides
installment buying option. This enables customers to pay over time based on trust rather
than showing collateral, which has been the norm for a long period of time.
An excellent example of the sales promotion tools is providing international tour
packages as gifts to high performing marketing partners. People distributing the
company's products were found traveling to Malaysia, Thailand and other popular
global tourist destinations.

17 | P a g e
For the promotion of the TATA Ace under Project 500, the ACE campaign was
launched grandly in April 2009 and was followed up by publicity and brand-building
campaigns in various media such as print, radio, hoardings, etc. The customer contact
program initiated by Nitol Motors supported Product claims with vehicle trials and
clearly communicated the product's advantages on operating economics over other
vehicles in the market.

Brand value:
The core value of Nitol Niloy Group is trust. Especially when marketing high
involvement products such as tractors in remote locations of the country, it is only by
gradually building trust through solid products and genuinely efficient after-sales
service can a brand excel.
The brand also stands for teamwork, not only within its wide network of employees but
also business partners at both supplying and marketing ends.
