Fund Update
 JCI climbing back to 6K territory in August, ended at 6,018, a level not
NAV Growth seen since Mar-18. JCI rose 1.4% MoM on better than expected Indone-
sia’s 2Q18 GDP growth which printed at 5.27%, the highest quarterly
growth under Jokowi administration. Almost all members of JCI index
gained positively with exception in consumer and mining sector. Planta-
tion stocks scored the most, up 14% MoM after Indonesia government
announced regulation to impose B20 (biodiesel 20% usage) on all PSO
(public service obligation) unit. CPO price climbed 3.2% MoM to
RM2,200/ton but still -10% YTD.

 The positive move in JCI was not accompanied by foreign inflow. In fact,
foreign investors recorded an outflow of USD-1.6 bln vs. July’s positive
inflow of USD778 mln. This happened after Bank Indonesia released
2Q18 balance of payment in which CAD widened to -3.0% of GDP vs. -
2.2% of GDP in 1Q18. Further, Indonesia also recorded negative balance
of payment for the last two quarters, resulting in lower foreign reserve.
July’s Indonesia foreign reserve equal to 6.9x of import and debt repay-
Fund Performance ment, lower than historical average of 8.5x during 2016-2017. As a
result, aside from negative external sentiment, rupiah depreciated 2%
MoM to Rp14,730/USD.

 To maintain rupiah stability, BI increased policy rate by 25 bps to 5.50%.


Meanwhile, August’s consumer price index, recorded deflation -0.05%
MoM with annual inflation of 3.2%, on track to meet government’s full
year target of 3.4%. Core inflation continued to increase to 2.9%. Au-
gust’s deflation was due to less pressure on volatile food price.
