IV-GUMAMELA
MATHEMATICS 4
I. A. Content Standards:
The learner demonstrates understanding of the concept of time, perimeter, area, and volume.
B. Performance Standard:
The learner is able to apply the concepts of time, perimeter, area, and volume to mathematical
problems and real-life situations.
C. Learning Competency:
The learner measures the perimeter of any given figure using appropriate tools.M4MEIIIh-49
D. Learning Objectives:
a.Visualize the perimeter of any given closed plane figure in different situations
b.Measure the perimeter of a rectangle, trapezoid and parallelograms
c.Practicing healthy life style
Learning Resources:
a.M4MEIIIh-49
b. Materials:TG, LM, meter stick, drill cards, activity sheets, real objects
c. References:K to 12 Grade 4 Curriculum Guide, LM Math Grade 4 pages 183-185
III. Procedure:
A. Review/Checking of Assignment
Have a guessing game on polygons.
1.I am a polygon with four equal sides and four right angles. What am I?
2.I have three sides and three angles. What am I?
3.I am a parallelogram that has 4 right angles and its opposite sides are equal. What am I?
4. I am a quadrilateral that has only one pair of opposite sides are parallel. What am I?
B. Drill:
Conduct a drill on adding and multiplying numbers mentally.
7 + 7 = _____ 23 + 14 = _____ 10 + 15 = ____
4 X 5 = ____ 5 X 8 = ______15 X 5 = _____
C. Motivation
Show a plain handkerchief.
Ask: What is the shape of this handkerchief? Do you carry your handkerchief every day? Why?
What are the uses of handkerchief? (Reiterate the value of practicing a healthy lifestyle.)
Say: This time we shall learn more about shapes.
Ask: What other shapes do you know aside from the square?
D. Presentation
a. Modelling
Let the pupils observe the following objects.
1. 2.
Ask:
c.How were you able to find the total distance around the figure?
d.What formula can you derive to find the distance around the figure?
10 cm
12 cm15 cm
8 cm
18 cm
b.The total distance around the figure is 45cm b. The total distance around the figure is 56 cm
c. By adding the measurements of its sides
c. By adding the measurement of its sides
d.P= L + L + W + W
d. P = a + b + c + d
e. P = ( 2 X L ) + ( 2 X W )
e. By adding the measurement of its sides f. By adding the measurements of its sides or using the
formula.
Say:
We got the sum of the measures of the sides of the figure.
For the rectangle, we derived the formula
P= L + L + w + w
= (2 X L) + (2 X w)
For the trapezoid, we derived a formula
P=a+b+C+d
For a parallelogram, we derived the formula
P=a+a+b+b
= (2 X a) + (2 X b)
b. Group Activity

After all groups have finished their output, let them display their work on the board.

5. 45 cm 45 cm
27 cm
E. Generalization:
Lead the pupils to give the generalization.
Perimeter – the total length of the lines that form a shape.
We got the sum of the measures of the sides of the figure.
For the rectangle, we derived the formula
P= L + L + w + w
= (2 X L) + (2 X w)
For the trapezoid, we derived a formula
P=a+b+C+d
For a parallelogram, we derived the formula
P=a+a+b+b
= (2 X a) + (2 X b)
