Low Pressure Sodium Lamps (LPS)

Low Pressure Sodium Lamps (LPS)

High Pressure Sodium Lamp
Outer Bulb - made of UV absorbing high temperature glass

Eyelet - a small hole designed to receive a cord or used for decoration (as in embroidery)

Base - The base of the light bulb has three main functions.

 First, it securely supports the light bulb within an electrical source unit, like a lamp or a light fixture.
 The second job of the base is to transfer the electricity from the main electrical source to the inside of
the light bulb itself.
 The last function is to secure the globe and all of the components inside the bulb, creating a reliable
and convenient light source.
Stem - Within the inner center of the light bulb there is a centralized stem made from glass, which supports the
filament in its place.
Getter - When gas molecules strike the getter material, they combine with it chemically or by absorption. Thus the
getter removes small amounts of gas from the evacuated space.

Ceramic arc tube - Ceramic arc tubes allow higher arc tube temperatures, which manufacturers
claim results in better efficacy, color rendering, and color stability. Containing sodium
Frame
Tungsten electrode - An electrode made out of tungsten is an electrical conductor used to make contact with
a nonmetallic part of a circuit

Dome mount – a rounded shape

Arc tube seal -
Low Pressure Sodium Lamp
Frame Support and other components – suports the arc tube and provides electrical connections to components. Welds
are sesceptible to breakage due to excessive vibration or rough handling

Discharge Tube, also known as gas-filled tube, is an arrangement of electrodes in a gas within an insulating,
temperature-resistant envelope.
Cathodes - the negatively charged electrode by which electrons enter an electrical device.
Barium getter - When gas molecules strike the getter material, they combine with it chemically or by absorption.
Thus the getter removes small amounts of gas from the evacuated space.

Outer bulb- or outer glass envelopeis a vacuum to insulate the U-shaped discharge tube . it must stay above
300 C to work. Resist terminal shock. Also weather resistant glass impervious ti climatic conditions
Sodium
Heat Reflector - A radiator reflector is a thin sheet or foil applied to the wall behind, and closely spaced from, a
domestic heating radiator. The intention is to reduce heat losses into the wall by reflecting radiant heat away from the
wall
Sodium-resistant seal - Sodium resistant sealing glasses having borosilicate glass compositions in which glass stability is
improved by the incorporation of several percent sodium oxide with a select percentage of the alkali earth oxides of calcium oxide,
strontium oxide and barium oxide.

Stem - Within the inner center of the light bulb there is a centralized stem made from glass, which supports the
filament in its place.
Cap or base – - The base of the light bulb has three main functions.
