A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan In Science 9

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. describe a volcano:
b. differentiate active and inactive volcanoes: and
c. appreciate the importance of knowing volcanoes in the Philippines.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

A. Topic: Volcanoes
B. References: Alvarez, Liza et.al. (2014). Science – Grade 9 Learner’s Module
Philippines. FED Printing Corporation
C. Resources:
Teacher’s Materials: LCD Projector, Laptop, pictures about the lesson.
Students’ Materials: Notebook, Ball pen

III. TEACHING – LEARNING ACTIVITIES

A. Preliminary Activities
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Settling down and setting of standards
 Checking of attendance
 Review
 Ask the students about the previous topic.
 MOTIVATION
“Guess the Picture”
 The learners will assemble pictures of volcanoes.

B. Lesson Proper
1. Engage – Anticipatory Set
“Concept Mapping”
 The learners will characterize a volcano. Based on the picture, give five
descriptions of a volcano through a concept map..

2. Explore – Guided Practice and Monitoring

“Mold a Volcano”
Instructions:
1. Create a salt dough by mixing the following ingredients: flour, salt, cooking oil,
and water.
2. Work the ingredients with your clean hands until smooth and firm.
3. Place soda bottle in a baking pan. Mould the salt dough around the bottle
making sure you don’t cover up the bottle
4. In a cup, mix ¼ cup of water, 1 tsp of baking soda, 6ml liquid detergent, and 3
drops of food coloring
5. Pour mixtures into the mouth of your volcano.
6. Slowly pour vinegar into the bottle and watch how furious your model volcano
is. Record your observations.

3. Explain – Instructional Process

 Let the learners explain their observations in activity 3.
 The teacher will present the list of some volcanoes in the Philippines.
 Let the learners analyze the data
Activity 4: volcanoes in the Philippines
Volcano No. of historical Latest eruption

1. How will you classify the volcanoes that have records of eruptions?
2. How will you classify volcanoes with no record of eruptions?
3. In your own words, differentiate an active volcano from an inactive volcano?

4. Elaborate – Independent Practice and Valuing

“Volcano Mapping”
Instruction: using the Philippines map, plot the location of the following volcanoes:
Volcano Latitude Longitude No. of historical Latest eruption
(in degrees) (In degrees) eruptions
Cabaluyan 15 12 0 -
Cocoro 10 121 0 -
