There is a very striking decrease and increase of Dropout Rate


among female and male elementary learners in the second and
third school years. Then, a slight decrease in the fourth school year
but still higher. No data are available yet in the following school
year.

There is a decreasing trend of Dropout Rate among female and


male secondary learners from the first to the fourth school years.
But there is a higher rate among male learners. No data are
available yet in the last school year.

2. Last July 27-28, 2017, HRD


spearheaded the conduct of Program
Management Information System
(PMIS) Roll-Out at Seandy’s Beach
Point, Hinunangan, So. Leyte. This was
participated in by the division key
personnel.
3. To ensure competence among DepeEd
personnel, Induction Program for the Non-
Teaching Personnel was conducted last
Sept. 7-8, 2018 at Cacao Mountain Resort,
Combado, Maasin City. One of the
highlights of the activity was the presence
of the Civil Service Commission Director II
Ma. Natividad L. Costibolo. As a result,
many doubts were erased and many queries
were answered. All the participants went
home happy and satisfied.
4. For the benefit of the teaching
personnel, a Division-Based Training of
Teachers on Induction Program (T.I.P.) was
conducted on the following dates and venues:
1st Batch – Sept. 1-4, 2017 at Casa de Tia Pacita,
Hinunangan, So. Leyte, 2nd Batch - Sept. 21-24,
2017 at Olayvar’s Place, Bontoc, So. Leyte, 3rd
batch – Oct 6-9, 2017 at Espacio, Hinunangan, So.
Leyte, 4th Batch – Oct. 28-31, 2017 at Olayvar’s
Place, Bontoc, So. Leyte Based on the results of the online monitoring and evaluation, the
teachers showed their appreciation and satisfaction of the program. Many of them
expressed that they learned many things and they were grateful of the opportunity.
5. HRD also supported the conduct of School
Heads Development Program: Foundation
Course (SHDP:FC) in the region. The
division-based Colloquium and Evaluation
of the school heads’ Application Projects
(APs) was done last June 19-20, 2017 at
the Division office, Mantahan, Maasin City.

on December 10, 2017 during the SHDP:FC
batch 1 Completion Rites at the Leyte
Oriental Hotel, Palo, Leyte were the
following: Rina Ligaya Merquita- Tambis
MHS, Saint Bernard, Gina Sajol- Benit ES. San Ricardo, and John Ken Salamo- Pinamudlan
ES, San Francisco. There were seven (7) facilitators, two (2) class managers, one (1)
QAME monitor and seventy-five (75) participants from Southern Leyte division.

6. The newly-installed Schools Division


Superintendent of Southern Leyte, Genis S.
Murallos, CESO V, wanted that all 2017
retirees should have a graceful exit from
DepEd. In view of this, a life-changing
activity entitled “Project PAGPANGGA”
otherwise called as “Send-Off of 2017
Retirees” was conducted at Kuting Reef,
Manaya, Macrohon, Southern Leyte.

7. Another breakthrough of the Division of


Southern Leyte was the conduct of the
Professional Development Program for
both Teaching and Non-Teaching
Personnel and Renewal of PRC licenses
last October 23-25, 2017 at SLSU Gym,
Sogod, Southern Leyte. The said activity
was a brainchild of SDS Genis S. Murallos,
CESO V. High-caliber speakers from the
Civil Service Commission, Philhealth, and
Philippine Regulation Commission (PRC)
were invited. Topics like Teachers’
Philhealth Benefits, Updates on CSC Rules
and Guidelines, and Continuing
Professional Development (CPD) Program
were discussed. The activity was
participated in by more or less four
thousand (4,000) teaching and non-
teaching personnel and there were more
than five hundred (500) who were able to
renew their PRC licenses.
8. We believe that successful teams
don’t happen by accident. Instead, they
are developed deliberately to achieve
outstanding results. In line with this, team
building was conducted last December
21, 2017 at Kuting Reef, Manaya,
Macrohon, Southern Leyte in order to
develop the following skills among the
division office personnel: collaboration,
communication, problem solving, flexible
thinking, conflict resolution, morale
building, and trust.

9. With regards to Gender and Development


(GAD), the HRD in coordination with the Health
and Nutrition unit spearheaded the Pap Smear
test and electrocardiogram (ECG) for early
detection and treatment of diseases like cancer
and cardiovascular disease. This was conducted
in the month of Decemebr 2017 in Maasin City.
Another GAD activities of the division were the
Symposium on Women’s Empowerment which
was held on May 2-3, 2017 at Maasin Country
Lodge, Maasin City and the Symposium on Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) held
on August 7, 2017 at Division Office Conference Room No. 3, Mantahan, Maasin City during the
occasion of the division’s founding anniversary. The activities aimed to empower women and to
protect them against any form of violence and discrimination.
The division through the HRD unit also
conducted a two-day Training of
Trainers on Gender Sensitivity, Gender
Mainstreaming and Analysis in two
batches on June 29-30, 2017 and July 6-
7, 2017 at Olayvar’s Place, Bontoc,
Southern Leyte. The activity aimed to
develop gender sensitivity and gain
knowledge and understanding of
gender mainstreaming and analysis.
The participants were expected to
cascade the training in their own
district/school.

Another GAD activity of HRD was the “PWDs in Action: A Mannequin Show”. This was
part of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Children. The activity was
held at Macrohon Parish Training Center, Macrohon, Southern Leyte. The activity showcased
the different abilities of our SPED children.
PWD also means “Persons with different”
abilities or as our Regional Director Ramir
Y. Uytico said that it means “Persons with
Determination”. The division-based search
for the Best Mannequins was in
preparation for the regional contest which
was held on December 11, 2017 at RELC
NEAP RO8, Candahug, Palo, Leyte. Luckily,
our female contestant from Sogod SPED
Gaester Lieghn Therese O. Amparo won
the minor award, Darling of the Crowd and
major award as 1st Runner-Up.
Planning and Research
The Planning and Research (P & R) Section has faced with overwhelming tasks in 2017.
The following are considered as its major accomplishments of the year.

 Led in the crafting of the Division Education Development Plan (DEDP) covering a ten-
year plan from 2018-2027
 Achieved 100 % Enrolment Quick Count in LIS a day before deadline, July 23, 2017 for
375 schools and 98 % schools’ participation as of August 4, 2017 Regional Tracking
Report
 Generated and disseminated Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) cum: Pareto Analysis for
337 schools (Access, Quality and Efficiency) and other relevant education statistics
 Produced Research Proposals through the conduct of the Orientation-Workshop on the
Research Management Guidelines (RMG) and Action Research to fifty (50) participants
held on August 23-25, 2017
 Garnered awards for an Outstanding achievement and involvement in a research
conference and publication, one (1) Oral Presentation of Basic Research, two (2) Poster
Presentations of Basic Researches, and one (1) Poster Presentation of Action Research
during the Eastern Visayas Basic Education Research Conference (EVBERC) on November
16-18, 2017
 Endorsed Research Proposals based on Basic Education Research Agenda (BERA) for
funding with Basic Education Research Fund (BERF)

Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health


 The division wide cascading on the Dance 8 Change by respective districts which
activated the appreciation and support to our own culture and values.
 The first participation of the division in the regional Sining ng Tanghalan 2017 wherein
all the contested events were participated.
 The submitted application of Sogod NHS to the region for the recognition of their
Special Program in the Arts (SPA).
Senior High School
 The opening of additional eleven (11) public senior high schools in DepEd Southern
Leyte.
 The submission of the pertinent papers of the remaining eleven (11) public senior high
schools to open in the coming school year 2018-2019.
 Completed Trainings of all the newly hired senior high school teachers.

Araling Panlipunan
 Conducted training entitled: Methods and Approaches in Teaching Araling Panlipunan.
 Crafted LM on Grade 3 Aral. Pan.
 Conducted validation on contextualized iped lesson plans.
 Continuation of Contextualization Training Workshop.
 Attended national orientation on Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM).
 Participated in Regional Festival of Talents in the area of Essay Writing, Debate, Pop Dev
Quiz, Poster Making and Jingle Writing and Singing.

Filipino
 Conducted Two-in-One Seminar-Workshop on “Iba’t-Ibang Istratehiya sa Pagtuturo ng
Filipino at Paglalapat sa Kasanayan sa Pagkatuto mula sa Gabay Pangkurikulum at Gabay
sa Pagkatuto” on August 17-19, 2017.
 Conducted Training-Workshop on Curriculum Contextualization on September 7-9,
2017. There were six (6) contextualized lessons per subject area; a total of 54 Teacher-
made lesson plans which were validated and edited by the Education Program
Supervisors and distributed to the 20 districts.

enrich curricular reforms on anti-illegal drugs, reproductive health, and
disaster preparedness.

keep them in school up to completion of basic education.

5. Introduce curricular and non-curricular programs and undertake


institutional capacity building to be responsive to the aspirations and most
urgent needs of the nation.

6. Foster critical thinking and enrich appreciation of culture and arts.

7. Put in place financial management reforms to ensure timely delivery of


infrastructure and learning resources.

8. We will expand the scope of employee welfare, to respond to felt and


reasonable needs by our academic and non-academic personnel.

9. Our leadership will be active, transparent, consultative, collaborative, and


corruption-free.

10. We will continue cooperation with the private sector and communities, as
well as with bilateral and multilateral institution towards the fulfilment of
our vision and agenda. To harness our collective spirit, we will upgrade the
department's communication strategy to be able to reach out to our local,
national and even global communities.

learners able to respond to challenges and opportunities through
the delivery of quality, accessible, relevant and liberating K to 12
Program by a modern, professional, pro-active, nimble, trusted
