TUNDRA STORAGE SOLUTIONS

Delivering Highly Flexible and Effective Storage

With its innovative approach and groundbreaking compute

density, Tundra™ ES is radically improving how HPC and other
large scale systems are being built and deployed. But com-
pute is only part of the overall picture. Building highly effective
systems requires storage that’s equally as innovative. With its
family of unique building blocks, Tundra storage does just that,
delivering flexible storage that can address balance, flexibility,
usability, scalability and performance.

Balance – System architects need no longer be constrained by the limits of traditional monolithic storage
solutions that require oversized infrastructure. With Tundra’s unique capability to locate storage and compute
locally, we can design, build and deliver the right kind of storage for the problem in hand, optimized for performance
and reliability, exactly where it can best be used.

Flexibility – Tundra storage building blocks can leverage drives from 3.5” nearline to SSD/NVMe in units as small as
a single 1 OU node, increasing in capability through 2 OU nodes, 2 OU JBOD/RAID shelves through to large capacity
Fabric Attached Storage.

Usability – In conjunction with well known filesystem solutions such as Lustre, CEPH, NFS, GusterFS and others,
we can design systems that deliver a broad range of functionality, not just for traditional HPC, but also for end-user
applications such as Hadoop, OpenStack/Swift, etc.

Performance – Combined with Tundra’s Fabric Infrastructure, one can simply design storage solutions, for example
HPC Lustre filesystems, that deliver as little as 1 GB/s to more than 100GB/s of aggregate filesystem bandwidth,
in systems whose capacity can be designed to easily exceed 100’s of PetaBytes. In addition, Tundra’s ability to
co-locate compute and storage, allows for the construction of large scale Big Data style systems.

PENGUIN’S CLOUD COMPUTING
MODELS AND TYPES

Penguin Computing® On-Demand™ (POD™),

Public Cloud Resource

A True HPC Cloud

Penguin’s Public HPC Cloud, allows organizations to utilize a high-performance, bare-metal, HPC computing
environment in the cloud without having to invest in on-premise infrastructure. Nor do you have to deal
with multi-tenant cloud environments and the performance, scalability and security challenges associated
with shared infrastructure.

Computational jobs are easy to submit and monitor from either a traditional Linux CLI environment, or
through the use of intuitive and secure web interfaces. POD’s HPC cluster is ready-to-run with hundreds
of applications pre-installed eliminating much of the complexity of building, managing and scaling
high-performance computing environments. This efficiency and economy of scale saves both capital
and operational costs while ensuring a clear, predictable pricing model. POD’s bare-metal, InfiniBand
on-demand HPC compute cluster is ideal for organizations in manufacturing, biosciences, research, energy,
design and finance—or any organization with high-performance computing needs.

Support by HPC Experts

Penguin Computing has well over a decade in optimizing HPC environments and applications. As a user
of POD, we provide you with free support from our HPC experts who can assist you in running applications,
managing workflows, and getting the best experience out of POD.

PRIVATE CLOUD
Customers who have a requirement for customized cloud computing resources choose Penguin’s Private
Cloud offering. Penguin Computing engineers work with you to design a cluster that fits your workload
and facility requirements. The Penguin HPC Cloud team takes care of installing and configuring your
cluster and will take care of all operational and maintenance tasks using a combination of remote and
on-site resources. We can reserve a portion of our public cloud for you on a monthly or yearly basis, or
we can design and host a specific configuration tailored to meet your needs.

HYBRID CLOUD
Penguin also offers an HPC Hybrid Cloud configuration for those users seeking to utilize the on-demand
offering to augment their internal capacity. Many businesses have in-house clusters that meet their daily
demand. Sometimes new projects or excess demand for short periods requires additional resources,
new hardware, or different networking topologies than the in-house cluster provides. In these instances
Penguin’s HPC on-demand cloud can be configured to handle that excess load. It can be utilized simply
to run your current workload, or you can use it handle jobs requiring InfiniBand or GPU support before
investing in that functionality in-house.

“Penguin’s HPC expertise and knowledge of LS-DYNA

is outstanding. POD is an easy and cost effective
cloud bursting solution.”
— Shu Yang
Applied Mechanics Engineer, IMMI
