True and untrue ideas have potential consequences that may come into existence by being acted
upon or by influencing perception. A false idea may be considered real within a certain context despite
not having a real existence independent of human thought. Human thought is the point of reference I
use to define what is real or what exists in conjunction with what consequences arise for a life form.
Whether a thing exists in a form other than a humans idea cannot always be known yet an unknown or
known false idea may be acted upon as if it were true. So, for practicality’s and survivability's sake
what is most pressingly real is that which causes consequences that affect life, such as, acting on
impulses of “heresy.” Then, one should fear the idea of God in a certain way even if one believes or
So what is real becomes what affects me or what affects life, at least, that is my interpretation.
Because of this, within this assignment, reality could be defined as the relationship between two minds
and the processes that affect them, thereby creating a consequence for the minds1. I hope to clarify in
Although processes ,such as, the dynamic frequencies of subatomic energy that produces what
we see as a solid stationary block of rock, matter and energy moving whether in an apparent pattern2 or
not and rocks in space changing trajectories based on their gravitational pull can occur independent of
the existence of life. However, in a world without conscious and analyzing minds nor with the
possibility of such a thing, said processes have no meaning or a realness to them. In this hypothetical
world any processes that occur might as well not occur. Although they would be physically real they
are undefined by consciousness and so have no consequence for life. Again, I define for practicality’s
1 Two minds because a single mind has no other mind to relate to and therefore might as well be nothing or unreal. Using
the idea of a world where only one of a species exists is too impractical.
2 It is important to note that I assume a pattern with consistent manifestations and with relation to another thing can only
exist within the context of an organizing principle or organizing life, the nature of this organizer is irrelevant as long as
organizing is one of its qualities.
sake, that real is that which has a consequence for life, whether the consequence actually exists or is
merely perceived.
It becomes necessary to classify reality into public reality and individual reality. Public
reality is that which can affect a group with consistency, such as, the intricacies of economic
calculations and decisions, very unperceived by most yet it affects economic conditions real to many
people. Individual reality may only affect one person yet if a person is inspired by a thing like a
musical piece, the abstractions only real to that person may lead that person to enact actions that
become widely known and of great influence, then part of the source of that real greatness and
influence is the unreal inspiration that may never be known or perceived by others.
So a thing that is real must be capable of producing consequences and it is true that ideas and
thoughts, however stupid and improbable may elicit reactions from a person and produce consequences
despite its perceived unreal quality. This must be interpreted within reason of what is practical and
likely to be achieved. The idea of “real” becomes highly layered. As an example let us assume that I
want to be Spider-man and I believe such a thing possible or real, so I will: Train to be Spider- man or
train to be someone in a position to help others by studying an academic pursuit. In the latter case the
essence of a superhero, helping, is manifested in a real way a but in the former only failure arises. The
practicality of an idea, then, must be sought as a requisite to its realness for a person or group and if it
cannot be known by consequence and practicality then let us deem it unknown until it is found or until
What is the nature of external reality, that is, the world around us?
It can be said that matter and energy exist in an organized universe. A universe with pattern,
without which no law of physics could be derived. Cycles and patterns everywhere to sustain life.
Such intricacy must be organized. Assuming an organizer exists, is it spirit as we understand it? I
consider the existence of an organizer to be inherent but I do not care to describe its characteristics
other than organizing. Is the entire universe a giant thought being thought out by organizers or an
With regards to “soul” implying ,immortality, I use a standard of necessity. Nature only gives
what is necessary. Immortality is necessary because living is its own reason. Many practical problems
arise with individual immortality, however, species immortality by way of sex is more sustainable. It
solves the problem of death by accident, chance and predators. A few animals exhibit a lack of obvious
ageing symptoms such as alligators, who keep growing and eventually die of natural causes or the
hydra which appears to be completely immortal, capable of reverting to an immature state but again,
dies rather quickly in terms of human life span due to natural causes.
mass scale, then, why would any type of immorality be practical, as any world which has life, I assume
must have a dynamic process of cycles so as to be alive. The idea of immorality and spirits begs the
question, is spiritual energy infinite, not needing cycles that recycle resources, for example, being born
and dying, eating and defecation? The way in which the mechanics of a spirit world are perceived just
so happen to not have a mechanical feeling at all and simply remain undefined.
In conclusion I assume humans are simply mortal at any level, it is not important whether a soul
exists or not, it does not have to be immortal and it just may be a necessary ingredient, it may not be.
So a part of humans can be known and the other possibility cannot be, as of yet at least.
I cannot know. Though it feels right and painful to say: the vanquishing of the dying
The origins of consciousness I cannot know, I can only assume that it was organized, since the
mind has its patterns.
This question assumes the inherent existence of a thing right and a thing wrong. These concepts
often carry the idea of a force with them, that is, the forces of good and evil , things that exist
independently of human thought. I believe the sources of these ideas may be originate from the need
Upon realizing that taking food for which one has not hunted creates anger and jealousy, upon
realizing that sleeping with a person or persons that have another regular partner also manifests
jealousy, violence, disorder, and death, upon realizing that bad weather sometimes did not come by
respecting it in some way, perhaps within this context or one similar, ideas of property, fidelity,
To have meaning is to relate to something. The idea of God is often a source for meaning. I do
not know that God exists. He never talks to me or my friends on a regular, consistent basis. So I cannot
relate God to humans. Maybe another can. Human existence does relate to existing and enjoying that
which exists, so, it makes sense to live in such a way as to enjoy it and be responsible for life that is
related to you.
