Poll Reveals the Economy Now the MOST Important Issue to Voters

CINCINNATI, OH – July 17, 2008 -- American Political Polling (APP) has

just conducted a survey of 598 randomly selected registered voters from Ohio’s
First Congressional District. The survey was taken over a three-day period
ending July 11 and represents the counties of the first district (Hamilton and
Butler).

Summary data from this poll is being made available to media outlets in
southwest Ohio free of charge, while complete internal polling statistics are
available for a fee.

Poll Summary & Analysis

The majority of District 1 voters, 54.7%, believe that George Bush is doing an
“excellent, good or fair” job as President while 37.5% believe he is doing a
“poor” job of leading the country. Barack Obama has a large lead over John
McCain by almost 4 to 1. The economy is the most important issue facing
America today according to 62 % of respondents while Iraq, health care, and
education, combined, is 38%. Underscoring that point, 54% of the district feels
that Ohio, which is one of 11 states in a confirmed recession, is headed in the
wrong direction.

In the Congressional race, the Republican Incumbent, Steve Chabot was rated
“excellent or good” by 22.5% of respondents, while 17.9% of respondents rated
Chabot as doing a “poor” job. If the election were held today, respondents would
vote 49.3% for Steve Driehaus, 21.5% for Steve Chabot, and almost one third of
registered voters are still undecided at 29.1%.

Perhaps a foreshadowing state or national elections, 68.7% of respondents

responded positively when asked how they felt about a Democrat representing
the First District of Ohio in Congress.

Our survey indicates that the candidates in the First District still have an
opportunity to reach voters with their message as 30% of respondents are still
undecided on which candidate to vote for with more than four months remaining
in the election season.

Survey Responses

1. The majority of District 1 voters, 54.7%, believe that George Bush is doing
an “excellent, good or fair” job as President while 37.5% believe he is
doing a “poor” job of leading the country.
2. If the election were held today, 63% say they would vote for Democrat
Barack Obama.
3. If the election were held today, 16% say they would vote for Republican
John McCain.
4. If the election were held today, 20% are still undecided.
5. Generally speaking, 57% of voters in OH1 say that Ohio is heading in the
wrong direction.
6. Generally speaking the most important issue is the economy at 62%.
7. Incumbent Chabot holds a favorable rating among voters in the Butler
County portion of his district and his support base appears stronger there
than in Hamilton County.
8. Voters in Hamilton County, which represents the vast majority of the First
District, appear ready for a change in party and candidate for their district.
9. Polling results suggest that challenger Steve Driehaus leads incumbent
Steve Chabot by a 3 to 1 margin.

The poll has a margin of error of +/- 4 % with a 95% confidence level.
