ABSTRACT

Background : Rinolith (from the Greek rhino meaning nose and lithos
means stone) is mineralized a foreign object in the nasal cavity. Rinolith is a rare
case that has not been widely known by the general public. Research on patient
characteristics rinolith not exist in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the
number of cases and patient characteristics rinolith in Jambi years 2006-2016.

Method :This research uses descriptive research design with a retrospective

approach. Samples are rinolith diagnosed patients in several hospitals in the city
of Jambi years 2006-2016, sampling is done by total sampling and get 19 samples.
Then the collected data is processed using computer software.

result : The mean age of patients rinolith ie24.53 ± 15.963 years (age range 9-65
years). Rinolith affects more women are 12 (63.2%), while men are found 7
people (36.8%). Rinolith more common on the left side of the nose in 11 (57.9%),
while the right side of the nose in 8 (42.1%). Based on symptoms rinolith found
that patients with foul-smelling nasal symptoms in 10 (52.6%), rhinorrhea in 6
(31.6%), epistaxis in 4 (21.1%), nasal congestion in 2 (10 , 5%), headache in 1
(5.3%), epiphora in 1 (5.3%), as well as asymptomatic patients amounted to 4
people (21.1%).

conclusion:The mean age of patients rinolith ie24.53 ± 15.963 years. Patients

rinolith more women than men. Rinolith more prevalent on side of nose left than
the right nostril. Symptoms found that most foul-smelling nose.
