Technology Integrated Lesson Plan

1. Scenario: The school I decided to use is Wheaton Warrenville South High School. I will

be teaching a Spanish 1 class that freshman will be in for 40 minutes a day. My class size

will be 28 and we will use the book “Realidades”. In my classroom the seats will be set

up in rows facing the front of the room. We will change seats every 2 weeks and the

reason for this is so students can have a new partner. Students will sit across from

someone they want to have as a partner and they will work with this partner during class

time on assigned activities or discussions. This lesson plan will be covering chapter 1B

and 2B and the grammar unit is about adjectives and ways to classify them.

2. Performance Objective: After this lesson students will be able to categorize adjectives

based off of sorting Spanish adjectives- singular, plural, feminine, masculine. We will

start off by talking as a class about the different types of adjectives and how to sort them.

After some practice we will engage in a Smart Board activity and end the day off with a

Kahoot to assess their learning.

3. Rationale: The standard for this unit is 3E: understands the appropriate role of

technology, including assistive technology, to address student needs, as well as how to

incorporate contemporary tools and resources to maximize student learning. I am

utilizing the Smart Board in my lesson for the students to have extra practice with this

lesson. The Smart Board is a way to engage the students and make an interactive activity

that still allows them to practice. It also addresses ISTE Standard #2: Design and develop
digital age learning experiences, through the smart board activity, and assessments, the

Kahoot.

4. Materials: For the lesson I will be using the textbook “Realidades” to learn about the

different ways to categorize adjectives and then we will use the Smart Board and end on

the Kahoot.

5. Accommodations: If there are any visually impaired students in my classroom I will

have the students pair up and they can help each other during the Smart Board activity.

6. Grouping Strategy: We will start off class as a whole group and do a little bit of

individual work at the beginning and then move back together as a whole class to

complete the Smart Board activity.

7. Assessment Strategy: I plan on assessing my students through a Kahoot at the end of the

lesson. This way I can go through each question and if they get one wrong we can discuss

it right after they answered it. This is helpful because it clears up confusion right away.

8. Enactment:

a. Hook: Hola clase y bienvenidos! If we look at the whiteboard I have three words

written on it: gracioso, estudiosa y inteligente. I want you to take a piece of paper

out and write these three words down. Once you are done I would like you to

decide which one applies to a male, which applies to a female and which one

could be used for both male and female. We will do this individually and then

discuss it as a class.

b. Student Aim: Today we will be learning how to categorize Spanish adjectives.

We will begin by doing the 3 words from the whiteboard as a class. We will

discuss the characteristics of each after you categorize the words on the
whiteboard and explain how to classify the adjectives and what to look for. Then

we will move into a Smart Board activity as a class and end individually with a

kahoot.

c. Development: Today in class we will be learning adjectives and the different

forms: singular, plural, masculine and feminine. To start we will begin with the

words on the whiteboard and we will spend 5 minutes on this. The three words are

gracioso, estudiosa y inteligente. Can anyone tell me what the differences in these

words are?

i. Student A: They all mean different things.

ii. Me: Yes, you are right! But there is another difference.

iii. Student B: They are all adjectives.

iv. Student C: And they all have different endings.

v. Me: Perfect! Since they are adjectives their endings are important.

Adjectives show gender and are able to describe whether it is singular and

plural. I want everyone to write down these 3 words on a piece of paper

and use the knowledge that you have to identify which adjective would be

feminine, masculine and which word could be used for either. You can

work in your compañeros.

vi. (1-2 minutes later) Can we have a couple people share what they wrote?

vii. Student C: We said estudiosa was feminine, inteligente was masculine and

gracioso could be used for both.

viii. Student D: We said inteligente was feminine, gracioso was masculine and

estudiosa was used for both.

ix. Me: Alright both groups are on the right path. For feminine we would use

estudiosa because the (a) at the end represents the word is feminine. For

masculine we would use gracioso because when adjectives end in an (o)

we would classify that as masculine. Inteligente would be used for both

feminine and masculine; the (e) allows the word to work for both genders.

x. Now that we have a better understanding on Spanish adjectives and

different ways we can categorize them we will move on to an activity.

xi. This activity will be done on the Smart Board. I will have a group of

Spanish adjectives listed and I will ask each person to come up

individually and move the adjective under the category it fits with. The

category options will be: masculino, feminino, singular y plural. If you

place it under the right option a green check mark will appear and if you

place it under the wrong option a red check mark will appear and I will

help you decide the right option. For example, the word alta would go

under feminino because it ends in an (a).

xii. After each student individually does this for one word we will split the

team up into two teams. This time there will be a sentence on the Smart

Board, but the adjective will be missing from the sentence. Each team will

send up one student and once you know the correct answer you will write

it in. An example would be: Lucy es una chica _________ (funny). The

student would fill in graciosa and make sure that it is feminine.

xiii. After this activity is completed we will go on Kahoot and take a 10

question quiz and assess the students’ comprehension.

xiv. Culmination: Today we worked on learning how to identify adjectives

based on singular, plural, masculino y femenino. We did an activity to

start off the lesson and then we took part in an interactive Smart Board

activity, individually and then in teams. We used the Smart Board today

because it is effective to integrate technology into the lesson when done

correctly. It was a fun and engaging activity for everyone, but it was

beneficial. We finished off the lesson with a Kahoot to see what

confusion, if any, the students have. When there was any confusion we

addressed it in the moment before moving onto the next question.

xv. Leap: Tomorrow at the beginning of class I will have a chart drawn on the

board with 3-4 adjectives and I will ask that a few volunteers fill it out

based on what we did today in class and that will be our review. If there

are no questions after we finish that then we will move to start to look at

the vocabulary words for chapter 1B that goes along with this grammar

unit. Please complete your homework tonight because we will also be

going over that tomorrow briefly to make sure there are no questions.
