Different sides of the story.

“BlacKkKlansman” is an American comedy-drama film directed by Spike Lee. The film is

based on a true story about John David Washington who portrays Ron Stallworth. It was released

worldwide on August 10, 2018 but it was also screened at the Savannah Film Festival on October 31st.

The film is about an African American cop who infiltrates the Ku Klux Klan and depicts how he takes

racism down. The film takes the audience on an intense yet humorous adventure. It includes every

element a film must have to talk about racism in America, from drama to comedy. The movie is a typical

Spike Lee joint: A thin story told in a painfully didactic style and runs on far too long. It focuses on

racism as a whole and how African Americans fight to be equal. As a whole the movie is very impactful

and will definitely give a lot people from all races around America to unite more and to stop being racist.

Many will criticize the film for its political perspective but for me it’s still a masterpiece. The film first

starts with Ron Stallworth who sees a job advertisement of the Colorado Springs police department that

says “Join The Colorado Police Force.” He decides to apply for the job and next thing you know, he

ended up getting the job. Afterward, Stallworth ended up getting the job. Throughout the movie he

basically fights for equal rights of African American people but mostly is trying to unite people from all

races in America. Of course film is open to different interpretations, as it creates many responses almost

like a chemical reaction but one thing is for sure, is that it will leave many viewers with inspiration on

how to deal with racism in America. Spike Lee has done a really great job with his directing and

sreenwriting along with many others who are included in the production of the film. Many of the white

actors I’ve never seen before on screen but they also did a great job. The only thing I disagree with is

how Spike Lee made it seem like the African American cop became a hero at the end of the movie, but

overall it’s really a great film. Just like many Spike Lee movies the movie leaves many viewers with

an impactful and inspirational message.
