This school has been a longstanding educational institution in our town and many of our friends and colleagues are graduates of the school. The teachers and administrators were our partners and counterparts in many educational and student-focused initiatives in this community. Its closure is a loss for the East End. Nevertheless, we write you at the request of the Board of Education to express the District's great interest in acquiring the property from the Diocese of Rockville Centre. Our enrollment has steadily increased over the years, unlike many of our neighboring districts which are seeing student populations drop. The District would bbe very interested in acquiring the building and the land of McGann-Mercy to allow it to remain an educational institution for the Riverhead Community. ‘We well recognize that you and all members of the McGann-Mercy Community are in a period of mourning for the loss of your school, but we hope that you will consider us should the Diocese choose to divest itself of the property.
