Introduction:
This technical note describes the fixed TX gain principle of the SAILOR 900 VSAT.
Main features:
► Fixed TX gain over temperature, frequency and cable length
► Antenna cable length independent
► Full utilization of the full 8W BUC power over temperature and frequency
► P1dB compression point same over temperature and frequency
Description:
The SAILOR 900 VSAT system utilizes a new transmitter chain concept for the VSAT installation, which is explained
below.
From a system point of view the SAILOR 900 VSAT will have a fixed gain of 44dB from the ACU Tx-port to the output of
the BUC. This fixed gain is independent of cable loss, temperature, frequency and gain drift of the BUC. The maximum
cable loss supported is listed in the SAILOR 900 VSAT user manual.
At installation time a cable calibration is carried out. Thus, the consequence is that every installation will find the same
P1dB compression setting regardless of cable length. The P1dB compression point is approximately -5 dBm at the ACU
Tx-port.
In addition to this the SAILOR 900 VSAT system real time monitors the gain and if the gain is changing due to
temperature or frequency changes the gain is slowly adjusted to the fixed level of 44dB.
See figure 1 below for a system overview:
Example: ACU Tx-port power -5dBm ----------------------------------- BUC output = +39 dBm (compression)
► Same gain and P1dB BUC compression point independent of temperature and frequency
► Temperature and frequency compensation of the full tx chain
► Fixed gain from ACU Tx-port to the output of the BUC
► Full utilization of the BUC’s 8 Watt
► Same modem tx power independent of installation
