In this Unit Plan you will find a sequence of tasks and activities that have the objective to create a
giant book about the animals that live in the nearest forest children have from their school.

I have enjoyed a lot during this intervention, but the truth is that I would have liked to finish it.
Despite, as I will be in the same school for the following Practicum, I will have the opportunity to
finish with this Project.

Since now students have been working with plants and other organisms that live in the forest.
I find very interesting dealing with food chains, so I thought that introducing that topic to children would be a great idea. Then, in
order to relate it with what they are doing now, we will start by looking at which animals live, together with the plants, in the forests,

Another justification would be that the school this year is working on a general project in which it is taken into account the
environment.
Moreover, the project I purpose for the class has to do with the immediat context they have, in fact, the forest that is next the school.

Whole group: what do we know about the animals of Bellaterra’s forest?

Another thing to comment here is the evaluation: as we were two at class and we were constantly passing through the different groups, Helena
and I were giving students immediate feedback as the activity was developing. In the box next to this one, I attach the comments we said to the
different groups. (See the feedback in the Annex)

SESSION 3
Vertebrate and invertebrate animals: video
Taking advantage of the English Project class, together with the English teacher and Helena we will use this session to go a bit deeper in
classification of animals. The first thing to do is to see two videos in which animals are classified into vertebrate and invertebrate

SESSION 4
Structuring our book
The main idea of that session is to come up with the idea and the structure of the book we are going to create. So, we will create the guideline of
the book.

SESSION 5

animals are going to be, we will use this session to make an example of what we are going to talk and
explain about. For doing so, again we will work in groups and this session will consist on observing an Observation

We haven't got time to finish with the whole observation, but for this reason we will take it again to finish it. Instead of doing it by groups, we will do
it alltogether so that each student can, at the end of that following session, have all the information of all the animals we have observed.
Once the activity has been done, I have realized that the document I have given to the students, the observation worksheet could have been
better in terms of language support. Maybe it could have been great to give, instead of the translation of the words, some images representing
what those "difficult words" mean. That's why I have tried to improve this worksheet; if some day I have to use some worksheet as this one, I
would do it more similar to the one that I attach in the box next to this one because for the reason I have already explained, I think it's better!
Another thing to add here is that this observation worksheet will serve as the starting point of the things students will add in their pages of the book
we all will build. I mean, once they have observed some things about some animals, and once they are aware of the things which are important to
take into account when explaining things about an animal, they are now prepared to start with their own explanation of other animals in the book.

SESSION 6
Evaluation of an observation

This part of the session has been really good: I see it has been great to give students a model in order to help them doing the activity. Therefore,
in this way they were easily doing the task individually, as I have asked them, and they hadn't need to ask all the times they mates or me.
It's true that not all of them have found the task an easy one, but at least I think in this way I have done a better evaluation and more adapted to
all of them.
In the box next to this one, I attach the rubric where I assess all students' observation. Besides, in the other box I attach a comment in which I
talk about the improvement (or not) they have done from the first observation we did till this one, which in the end is what I mostly appreciate
when assessing their work.

Creation of the book: the habitat

However, at the beginning they were a bit lost, but once they have had a look to the examples in the books we have provided them, it seems they

founding a solution.
