Re: Recommendation
To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to recommend Genesis Ramos. I have known Genesis for nearly two years as a student in
our Academy of Health Sciences (AOHS), where she is a senior in the Project Lead The Way (PLTW) course,
Biomedical Innovation. Despite joining our program two years later than most of our other seniors, Genesis has
been one of our most impressive students. She is self-motivated, taking advantage of any opportunity presented
to her for her own academic and professional growth and development. This past summer, Genesis interned at
Parkland Hospital in their Family Medicine Clinic, where she helped take intake for families, many of whom
struggle with English. Genesis received an excellent evaluation from her supervisor at Parkland. Genesis has also
been very active on campus as a senior leader as Vice President of Student Council. In this role, she helps with
the planning and execution of several senior activities throughout the year including prom, graduation,
Freshmen “Fish” Camp, and a Fall Festival fundraiser which raised over $7,000. She has also led polling efforts to
survey the senior class and petition for activities that truly reflect the desires of the entire senior class.
Like many other academic programs, our students are required to get volunteer service hours as a
requirement of the program, and Genesis is a leader in finding opportunities not only for herself but for others
in AOHS. One such volunteer opportunity was with the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. Genesis
completed several volunteer hours there herself, and other students also found volunteer opportunities there as
well thanks to her initiative. She has also been a leader in college admissions as the first student in our inaugural
AOHS class accepted by a university. But Genesis is not a person to only look out for herself, but rather she has
taken what she has learned in the process of her pursuits and helps other who follow in similar pursuits. She has
been an asset to me as an experienced teacher attempting to support high school seniors in their college
admissions for the first time. Genesis has also done well academically. Last year, Genesis was double-enrolled in
AOHS courses, taking both the first and second-year courses simultaneously (Principles of Biomedical Science
and Human Body Systems, respectively). Despite the demand of her course-load and her extracurricular
activities as both a junior and senior, Genesis has excelled in her classes. She is an outstanding student who has
displayed a strong will and desire to improve her life through a commitment to her education and
professional growth, and she will undoubtedly take advantage of every opportunity the organization has to
offer.
To provide a little insight into our high school, over 64% of Sunset High School students are categorized
as being “At Risk” and nearly 96% of our students are classified as being of Low Socioeconomic Status. Despite
these categorizations, we are proud of our students’ drive and willingness to work through their personal
difficulties to achieve great things in both the present and future. Genesis exemplifies this personal drive and
work ethic, and I enthusiastically recommend her for this scholarship. Please contact me if you have questions or
if there is anything else you might need for me.

Respectfully,

Justin George
