1. Describe the HR Approach used by MHS and Cisco.

There are 3 HR Approaches used by MHS and Cisco, which is :


1. Ensuring the workers have a compassionate relations.
2. Establishing Systems and Policies.
3. Developing Compassionate Leadership

2. How was compassion embedded within MHS and Cisco?


Compassion can be embedded within MHS and Cisco because of the employee feel protected by
organization through policies that providing and systems that ensure the employees’ safety and already
proven during a period of civil unrest Jakarta,1998 . When employees feel safe they have more
capability to do HR approach to each other.

1. Compassionate co-worker relations.


HR departments working on co-workers relations by encouraging co-workers to
provide tangible support like fundraising for co-workers urgently require which
make co-workers feel proud to work among people who care. Or little help such as
offering a help to someone need it, hospital visits , cheering someone,open
listening, etc. The target is to brought them all closer together as Compassion can
be expressed towards other at all levels of social relations, so they can be a
friends/family beyond their professional roles inside the organizations.

2. Compassionate Policies and Systems.


By establishing policies and systems that supports value of dignity,
commitment , respect , equality ,importance of members, which will support
beliefs that person more than professional identity . And it will reinforce the
outcome of the practice of Compassion. The objective was to ensure that no
Cisco employee would again feel so forsaken and alone in a frightening
situation.

3. Developing Compassionate Leader.

Developing a role model so the others could follow the leader’s compassionate
acts.
3. What might be the result, in terms of positive psychological capital, of the HR approaches used
in this case?
The result of HR Approaches that used in this case, based on first case, the employee feel proud
to be working among people who care. Employees feel comfortable and safe, passionate ,higher
self esteem,productive and many more. The conclusion is organizations itself becomes a healthy
environment that keep growing each day to be better.
