Rationale (Short): Our principal has asked our staff how we can become an innovative
school? According to Getting Smart, starting in a classroom by fixing problems with
student suggestions is a start. Informing the staff with research articles such as this one
will move us in the direction of gaining an innovative mindset.
Rationale (Long): Education Dive article discuses successes of students who have a
consistent and meaningful curriculum that spans across grade levels which prepares
them for their future outside of school.

NBPTS: Proposition 4.2 - Teachers Use Feedback and Research to Improve Their
Practice and Positively Impact Student Learning
Goal: Create an art program that provides an emotional outlet for students to express
themselves creatively and in a safe environment.
Objective: Serve as the art director for my school to provide students with an art room
that is safe to express themselves.
Rationale: Our school is a creative performance arts school, but didn’t put as much
focus on the visual arts. Studies have shown that art is an outlet for students to share
difficult things that happening in their lives through painting or drawing. It is also a
creative outlet for students that are struggling in their other subjects to just be free to
express their selves in a safe art environment. There are no wrong answers in art, just
creative expression.

NBPTS: Proposition 1.4. Teachers Know Their Mission Transcends the Cognitive
Development of Their Students
TLMD domains: 7b: Works with colleagues to identify and use research to advocate for
teaching and learning processes that meet the needs of all students.
Objective: Provide professional development opportunities for the summer and the
following school year for incorporating more well-designed cross-curricular
lessons/activities. (Short-term)
Rationale: As teachers we need more learning opportunities to refresh our mindset, see
what other teachers are doing, and to find new ways to reach our students. As a staff we
go to professional development multiple times per year, but having a more well-designed
professional development is needed to make a difference in our teacher’s motivation and
our students learning.
Evidence: According to Queens University in Charlotte, there are multiple reasons for
teachers to receive a well-designed professional development.
