1. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY

a. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

b. Start the engine and turn the Techstream on.
c. Warm up the engine.
d. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT System
(Bank 1).
e. Check the engine speed while operating the Oil Control Valve (OCV) using the Techstream.

c. Remove the O-ring from the oil control valve.
3. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Intake Side)
a. Disconnect the oil control valve connector.

b. Remove the bolt and oil control valve.

c. Remove the O-ring from the oil control valve.

1. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY

a. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

If the result is not as specified, replace the oil control valve assembly.
b. Connect the battery positive (+) lead to terminal 1 and negative (-) lead to terminal 2, and check the
movement of the valve.

If the result is not as specified, replace the oil control valve assembly. If the valve cannot return
properly because of foreign matter, a small pressure leak in the advanced direction may occur and a
DTC may be stored.
INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Exhaust Side)
a. Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring, and install it to the oil control valve.

b. Install the oil control valve with the bolt.

Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf)
NOTE:  Do not allow foreign matter to contact the oil seal face of the oil
control valve (connecting surface with cylinder head cover).
 Be careful that the O-ring is not cracked or moved out of place
when installing the oil control valve.
c. Connect the oil control valve connector.

2. INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Intake Side)
a. Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring, and install it to the oil control valve.

b. Install the oil control valve with the bolt.

NOTE:  Do not allow foreign matter to contact the oil seal face of the oil

when installing the oil control valve.
c. Connect the oil control valve connector.

3. INSPECT FOR OIL LEAK .Refer to REPLACEMENT - Step 5

1. CHECK THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY

a. Check the throttle control motor operating sounds.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
2. When pressing the accelerator pedal, check the operating sound of the running motor. Make
sure that no friction noises are emitted from the motor.
If friction noise exists, replace the throttle body.
b. Check the throttle position sensor.

1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
3. Turn the Techstream on.
4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / All Data / Throttle
Sensor Position.
5. Depress the accelerator pedal. When the throttle valve is fully opened, check that the value of
"Throttle Sensor Position" is within the specification.
Standard throttle valve opening percentage
60% or more
NOTE: When checking the standard throttle valve opening percentage,

make sure the shift lever is in N.
If the percentage is less than 60%, replace the throttle body assembly.

1. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT .Refer to REPLACEMENT - Step 2

2. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Lift the rear of the engine cover to detach the cover from the 2 pins, and then lift the front of the
engine cover to detach the cover from the pin and remove the engine cover.

3. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY See step 3

4. REMOVE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY
a. Disconnect the water by-pass hose from the throttle body.

b. Disconnect the No. 2 water by-pass hose from the throttle body.
c. Disconnect the fuel tube from the clamp.
d. Disconnect the throttle position sensor and control motor connector.
e. Remove the 4 bolts and the throttle body with fuel tube bracket.

f. Remove the bolt and fuel tube bracket.

g. Remove the gasket from the intake manifold.

b. Check that the there is no sludge accumulating around the throttle body.
c. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

1. INSTALL THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY

a. Install a new gasket to the intake manifold.

b. Install the fuel tube bracket with the bolt.

c. Install the throttle body (with the fuel tube bracket) with the 4 bolts.

d. Connect the throttle position sensor and control motor connector.

e. Connect the fuel tube to the clamp.

f. Connect the No. 2 water by-pass hose to the throttle body.
g. Connect the water by-pass hose to the throttle body.
2. INSTALL AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY See step 3
3. ADD ENGINE COOLANT .Refer to REPLACEMENT - Step 3
4. INSPECT FOR COOLANT OIL LEAK
5. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Align the 3 engine cover grommets with the 3 pins, and press down on the engine cover to install it.

6. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
NOTE:  Be sure to perform this procedure after reassembling the throttle

body assembly or removing and reinstalling any throttle body
component.
 Perform the following procedure after replacing the ECM, throttle
body assembly or any throttle body components. The following
procedure should also be performed if the throttle body is cleaned.
 Be sure to perform this procedure after reconnecting the battery
cable or replacing the ECM.
a. Disconnect the EFI fuse and ETCS fuse at the same time. Wait at least 60 seconds and reconnect
the fuses.
b. Turn the ignition switch to ON without operating the accelerator pedal.
NOTE: If the accelerator pedal is operated, perform the above steps again.
c. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3 and clear the DTCs.Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
d. Start the engine and check that the MIL is not illuminated. After the engine is warmed up, check
that the idle speed is within the specified range when the A/C is switched off.

f. Perform a road test and confirm that there are no abnormalities.

1. PRECAUTION
NOTE: After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before
disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to
read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before
proceeding with work.Refer to PRECAUTION .
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
WARNING: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the
negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
3. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Disconnect the mass air flow meter connector.

b. Disconnect the purge VSV connector.

c. Disconnect the 4 wire harness clamps.
d. Disconnect the 2 purge line hoses.
e. Disconnect the No. 2 ventilation hose from the air cleaner hose.

f. Disconnect the purge line hose from the clamp.

g. Lock the No. 1 air cleaner hose clamp, and then disconnect the No. 1 air cleaner hose from the
throttle body.

h. Detach the 2 hook clamps, and then remove the air cleaner cap.

i. Remove the air cleaner filter element from the air cleaner case.
4. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CASE
a. Disconnect the harness clamp.

b. Remove the 3 bolts and air cleaner case.

5. REMOVE ECM
a. Remove the 3 bolts of the ECM with bracket.

b. Disconnect the 2 ECM connectors.

NOTE: After disconnecting the connector, make sure that dirt, water and
other foreign matter does not contact the connector.
1. Raise the 2 levers while pushing the locks on the 2 levers, and disconnect the 2 ECM
connectors.
c. Remove the ECM with bracket.
d. Remove the 4 screws and 2 ECM brackets.

a. Install the 2 brackets to the ECM with the 4 screws.

b. Connect the 2 ECM connectors and lower the 2 levers.

NOTE:  When connecting the connector, make sure that dirt, water and
other foreign matter is not stuck between the connector and
ECM.
 Make sure that the 2 levers are securely lowered.
c. Install the ECM with bracket with the 3 bolts.

Torque: 6.5 N*m (66 kgf*cm, 58 in.*lbf)
2. INSTALL AIR CLEANER CASE

a. Install the air cleaner case with the 3 bolts.

b. Connect the harness clamp.

3. INSTALL AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Install the air cleaner filter element to the air cleaner case.
b. Align the protrusion on the end of the air cleaner hose with the edge of the throttle body and
connect the hose. Then, release the lock of the air cleaner hose clamp to secure the clamp.

c. Insert the hinge part of the air cleaner cap into the air cleaner case, then attach the 2 hook clamps.

d. Connect the purge line hose to the clamp.

e. Connect the No. 2 ventilation hose to the air cleaner hose.

f. Connect the 2 purge line hoses to the purge VSV.

g. Connect the 4 wire harness clamps.

h. Connect the purge VSV connector.
i. Connect the mass air flow meter connector.
4. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
5. PERFORM REGISTRATION
a. When replacing the ECM, input the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) into the new ECM.Refer
to REGISTRATION .
b. When replacing the ECM, perform the vehicle stability control system recognition in the new
ECM.Refer to REGISTRATION .
6. RESET MEMORY
a. When replacing the ECM, perform the RESET MEMORY procedure (A/T initialization).

2. INSPECT FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK
INTEGRATION RELAY
NOTE:  The EFI MAIN and A/F relays are built into the integration relay.
 Some relays are built into the integration relay. The integration relay
cannot be disassembled. If there is a malfunction in the circuit of the
integration relay, replace the integration relay.
1. REMOVE INTEGRATION NO. 1 RELAY

a. Remove the engine room No. 1 relay block cover.
b. Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and disconnect the integration relay from the engine room
No. 1 relay block.

HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
c. Disconnect the 3 connectors from the integration relay.

2. INSPECT INTEGRATION NO. 1 RELAY (EFI MAIN RELAY)
a. Measure the resistance of the EFI MAIN fuse.

a. Check the throttle control motor operating sounds.

If friction noise exists, replace the throttle body.

b. Check the throttle position sensor.
