Setting Paragraph Alignment and line Spacing

ALIGNMENT

This paragraph is left aligned. All lines of the paragraph are aligned at the left margin.
Notice that the lines in this paragraph are uneven on the right. The left paragraph
Alignment button is selected (depressed) on the toolbar.

This paragraph is center aligned. All lines of the paragraph are centered between the
margin markers (at 0 and 6). The center paragraph alignment button is selected
(depressed) on the toolbar.

This paragraph is right aligned. All lines of the paragraph are aligned at the right at the
right margin. The right paragraph alignment button is selected (depressed) on the toolbar.

The paragraph is justified. Except for the last line, all lines of the paragraph run to the edge
of the right margin. There is not justified paragraph alignment button on the toolbar (use the
Paragraph dialog box to select this alignment.)

LINESPACING

In Work, there are number of spacing options for paragraph. Double click on the Between
Lines text box and enter your choice by typing a number (you do not have to type li
following the number.) This paragraph is single spaced, the default or Auto setting for
Works.

Setting Margins and Indention

Paragraph indents refer to the way lines of paragraph are set off from text in the rest of the
document. The margin makers for this paragraph are set at 0 in the left and 6 on the right.

This paragraph is indented on both the left and the right by


dragging the margin markers on the ruler. These new left
and right margin marker setting are shown on the ruler
because the insertion point is currently positioned in this
paragraph.

First -line indents refer to the way the first line of the paragraph is indented. When
the first-line indent marker is set as shown on the ruler for this document, pressing the Enter
key will position the insertion point a half inch inside the left margin- you do not have to
press the Tab key each time to start a new paragraph.

A hanging indent is another kind of the first-line that is useful when you are typing itemized
or number lists. When you use a hanging indent, the list line of a paragraph starts to
the left of the lines on the paragraph.

Personal Computers (PC) are machines capable of performing


calculations and instructions quickly and repetitively.
Designed to be used by a single person at a time, a PC is
generally smaller, less expensive and easier to use than
workstations, which usually have more computational power
than a (PC). The PC on the other hand is generally larger and
more powerful than handheld computers, including personal
digital assistants (PDAs), and gaming devices.

Computer, machine that performs tasks, such as calculations or


electronic communication, under the control of set of instructions called a
program. Program usually resides within the computer and are retrieved and
processed by the computer’s electronics. The program results are stored or
routed to output devices, such as video display monitors or printers.
Computers perform a wide variety of activities reliably, accurately, and
quickly.

The Standard Keyboard Layout

1. The Alphanumeric Keys:


 the area of a keyboard that looks like a typewriter’s keys- arranged the same
the way on almost every keyboard;
 on a computer keyboard, the keys that include the letter of the alphabet,
numerals, and commonly used symbols;
 it includes 4 keys having special functions;

2. The Modifier Keys – keyboard keys that are used in conjunction with other keys to
execute a command. The IBM-PC keyboard includes:
 SHIFT
 CTRL (Control)
 ALT (Alternate)
3. The Numeric Keypad:
i. The part of a keyboard that looks and works like a calculator keypad; it has
10 digits and mathematical operators (+, *, -, and /).
ii. The numeric keypad also features a NUM LOCK key, which forces the
numeric keys to input numbers to input numbers. When NUM LOCK is
deactivated, the numeric keypad’s keys perform cursor-movement control
and other functions.
4. The Function Keys- the part of the keyboard that can be used to quickly activate
commands; which are labeled F1, F2 and so on, are usually arranged in a row along
the top of the keyboard.
5. The Cursor-Movement Keys- on a computer keyboard, the keys that direct the
movement of the on-screen cursor or insertion point. It lets you move around the
screen without using a mouse. It includes:

 Page Down
6. Special-Purpose Keys- in addition to five groups of the keys describe, all BM-
compatible keyboards feature eight-special purpose keys. Each of which performs a
unique function.
