Language Arts
We are finishing up our Novel and Character Studies this week with
our paper bag presentations. I can’t wait to see the students dressed
up as their favourite characters. The focus is to connect objects with
the character and novel and to show understanding of the text
through oral communication. Swim To
Reading Survive
We will continue our studies on folk tale and fairy tales in reading. Our Friday, March 1st
main focus will be on pourquoi tales from different cultures and
countries (African, First Nations, Asia, etc.). We will be writing our Friday, March 8th
own pourquoi tales later in the months (nonfiction writing).
Writing
-relate multiplication of one-digit numbers and -estimate, measure, and record the perimeter of
division by one-digit divisors to real llife situations, two-dimensional shapes, through investigation
using a variety of tools and strategies (e.g., place using standard units (Sample problem: Estimate,
objects in equal groups, use arrays, write repeated measure, and record the perimeter of your
addition or subtraction sentences) (Sample notebook.);
problem: Give a real-life example of when you might
need to know that 3 groups of 2 is 3 x 2.); – estimate, measure (i.e., using centimetre grid
paper, arrays), and record area (e.g., if a row of 10
– multiply to 7 x 7 and divide to 49 ÷ 7, using a connecting cubes is approximately the width of a
variety of mental strategies (e.g., doubles, doubles book, skip counting down the cover of the book
plus another set, skip counting). with the row of cubes [i.e., counting 10, 20, 30, ...]
is one way to determine the area of the book
