Students are advised to carefully read the below given scenario before attempting the
assignment.
Scenario:
Mr. Usman is a manager at XYZ Company. He is managing a whole department and around 15
employees in the department are reporting to him. Mr. Sabir, one of the senior most employees
of the department is very efficient person but has some behavioral issues. He is team lead of 5
member team, working on a project and is reporting to Mr. Usman. Mr. Sabir is often found
shouting at someone or calling names of other. At the time of performance appraisal, Mr. Usman
decided to talk about his behavior. Mr. Usman told Mr. Sabir that he is pleased with his
performance in most areas but want him to develop better interpersonal skills and empathy in
him.
At the end of the meeting Mr. Usman observed that Mr. Sabir seems very happy from his
appraisal. A month later, Mr. Usman noticed that interpersonal communication and the behavior
of Mr. Sabir have not been changed. He wondered if he has communicated his message to Mr.
Sabir rightly.
Identify the barrier to effective communication that has caused ineffectiveness of the
communication. Provide reasoning to justify your answer.
Keeping in view the communication process, at which stage the communication process was
distorted? Explain.
What steps Mr. Usman could have taken to communicate his message effectively?
