Teacher Practice

Congratulations on becoming a SayABC Teacher!

Please read the following information carefully before teaching. This information is very important to
know and includes some of the basic professional standards SayABC expects Teachers to meet
Class Payments:

1. Major class payment = Base Pay + Completion Incentive


 Your base pay: USD $15 / 40-minute lesson + 5 minutes of class preparation before class
 Your completion incentive payment: Up to USD $36/Unit
2. Free Trial class payment: Base Pay + Conversion Incentive
 Your base pay: USD $15 / 40-minute lesson + 5 minutes of class preparation before class
 Your conversion incentive payment: $8/converted student
3. Sub class payment = Base Pay + Sub Incentive
 Your base pay: USD $15 / 40-minute lesson + 5 minutes of class preparation before class
 Your sub incentive payment: USD $7/successful conducted class

Please refer to the payments & incentives section below for criteria for receiving incentives.

Availability and Time Slots


Please note that during the class assignment process, our system will primarily assign
Classes based on Homerooms. Each homeroom assignment consists of two classes per week at a
fixed time with the following three possible day pairings:

 Monday and Thursday (A)


 Tuesday and Friday (B)

 Wednesday and Saturday (C)


For example, in the table below, homeroom schedule “A1” classes will take place at 18:00 Beijing
standard time on every Monday and Thursday. Homeroom schedule “C3” will take place every
Wednesday and Saturday at 19:40, Beijing standard time.

You can still open other timeslots on top of the Homeroom combinations. Those usually won’t be
assigned right away but are usually filled later when other Teachers need to cancel their class due to
emergencies. Remember, we pay incentive for late assignment.
Assignment:
The further in advance you open your availability, the more likely you are to have your timeslots filled
Our system will assign classes based on the priorities below:
1. Teachers with timeslots open 14 weeks in advance
2. Teachers with timeslots open 5 weeks in advance
3. Teachers with timeslots open less than 5 weeks in advance
 Note that you may not get a full schedule on your first assignment but will gradually be assigned
more classes as more homerooms are opened each week.
 Teachers can have a maximum of 12 Homerooms each week.
 Teacher will be liable for slots opened correctly and contract renewal date after we sent you
open slots reminders and renew contract emails within renewal date. If you misconduct your
teaching account may suspend and terminate.
 Teachers are expected to enter the virtual classroom at least five minutes before the
scheduled class time.
 Please note all the time in the Teacher Practices refers to Beijing Standard Time
(China Standard Time)
Payments and incentives:
Teachers receive payment on a per class basis. Class time is between 40-45 minutes, with a 5-10
minutes break between back-to-back lessons.
Aside from the minimum payment amount, Teachers can receive the following incentives:
Unit Completion Incentive: $36
Complete one entire unit (9 classes) for the same class of students.
Teachers won’t be eligible for the Unit Completion Incentive if they have
 1 or more TNS (as defined below) during the unit
 2 or more TL, LE, TLC, LR during the unit USD $4
 3 or more TC (as defined below) during the unit per class
 Negative complaints result in student's refund/stop renew homeroom during the unit
Teachers will only be eligible for 50% of the Unit Completion Incentive if they
 1 TL, LE, TLC, LR during the unit
 2 TC (as defined below) during the unit
 1 teacher side tech issue

Conversion Incentive: $8 USD $8 per


 Student enrolled within 5 days after trial class enrolled
student
Referral Fee: $100
 The candidates must fill out the referral code, apply via the referee’s referral link or tell their recruiter
the referees name during the interview in order to be registered as belonging to the referee. USD $100 per
Candidates can’t be claimed as belonging to the referee after the interview is complete. teacher
 Referees are eligible for the incentive after the candidate has completed their first class.

Teachers are not eligible for the Referral Incentive if the candidate has not:
 The Candidates has not provided the name of the referee during the interview
 The Candidates didn’t register via referral link or supply the referral code during application
 The Candidates didn’t complete at least one class.

SayABC also provides additional seasonal incentives every month, the details of which will be
notified to Teachers through emails. SayABC has full discretion to decide whether or not to offer the
additional seasonal Incentive or the amount of the incentive.
 Base pay and Incentive are not paid on cancelled classes.
 Student Cancellation within 24 Hours: Classes with no students are eligible for full payment if
there are no students within 24 hours of class start time. However teachers must be
available to take sub classes if requested by the teacher support team on Skype in order to
qualify for payment.
 SayABC will notify teachers of empty classes outside of 24 hours of start time. Please note
such classes are not paid and teachers do not need to be available to take subs
 Locked Slots: Teachers with locked slots must be available on Skype to take sub classes.
Payment will not be made to teachers that are not able to take subs on locked slots
 If a homeroom unit ends early due to all students dropping from the course teachers are still
eligible for completion incentive on a pro-rata basis.

Payment:

 Remittance: Transfers initiated 15th of the following month


 Pay Period: 1st-31st
 Pay Method: Wire transfer
 Transaction fee: SayABC adds an additional $12 to payments to non US accounts to cover
transaction fees. Please note your local bank may charge for receiving USD. SayABC is not
responsible for further fees charged by financial institutions.
 The day on which the remittance is deposited in Teacher’s account depends on processing
times of the financial institutions involved. Some banks may take an additional 4-5 working
days to process payments.

Definitions:

 TNS - Teacher No Show: No entry into the classroom within 10 minutes of scheduled class
start time including teacher side technical problems. Tech
 TLC - Teacher Late Cancellation: Cancellation of class within four hours of the scheduled
class time.
 TC - Teacher Cancellation: Cancellation of class more than four hours before the
scheduled class time
 TL - Teacher Late: Entry to the classroom less than five minutes before scheduled class
time
 LR – Late Report: Completion of student report more than 12 hours after scheduled class
time
 NR – No Report: Report not completed within 24 hours of scheduled class time.
 LE – Left early. Left classroom before scheduled end time.

Teacher Attendance:

 TNS, TL, LE, TC, TLC LR & NR have a strong negative impact on our customer experience,
and are to be avoided as much as possible. While we understand that occasional

emergencies happen a persistent record of attendance issues may lead to suspension or
termination following written warnings. Accounts will be terminated immediately if they have
more than 4 TNS in two months or 12 TNS in twelve months.
 Absence, tardiness and no feedback for classes are not permitted.
 Assignment is partly based on attendance. Regular attendance issues could reduce your
chances of having classes assigned.
 Cancellation of homerooms may lead to the homeroom not being renewed.
 Teachers should enter the classroom 5 minutes before the scheduled start time. Entering
later may be recorded as a teacher late.

Short Notice Classes

 A Teacher may be asked to cover a class with less than 24 hours’ notice. SayABC will confirm
with the Teacher that they can teach the class. If a Teacher accepts the late notice class and
conducts a successful lesson, USD $7 will be added to the total payment for that class.
 A Teacher may be asked to take over a homeroom in the middle of a unit. If the Teacher
accepts the rest of the classes, USD $7 will be added for each class

Teaching guidelines:
 Professional Conduct: In order to provide top-notch professional service to students, there
are certain guidelines teacher offers are of the highest quality. Any misconduct including any
illegal activity during or outside of class hours or any activity or actions that, in the
reasonable opinion of company, may injure or tend to injure the company or the reputation of
company may lead to termination of the service agreement. Whether behavior is
unprofessional is in the reasonable discretion of SayABC. Failure to adhere to these
guidelines may result in the immediate termination of this Service Agreement.
 Ethical Behavior: Teachers shall maintain high levels of ethical behavior and
professionalism at all times during teaching in SayABC. Language, content and discussion
topics shall not be construed as being profane or offensive in any way. Any evidence of such
negative behavior or improper conduct shall result in immediate termination of services
provided.

 Personal Information: Teachers shall under no circumstances exchange personal


information of any kind with the students or parents for any reason; This includes giving out
personal information or accepting personal information from the student; Personal
information includes, but not limited to, email addresses, telephone numbers, websites,
Facebook or other social networking accounts, addresses, or communication of any kind.

 Timely Login: Teacher shall adhere to login protocols and log into Teacher’s portal and
Skype as well as enter the class room a minimum of five minutes prior to the class start time.
SayABC reserves the right to cancel or reassign the class if Teachers do not login not login
on time and teachers will not be paid for such class. Failure to comply with log in protocols
may result in a record of tardiness or absence. Teachers may be blocked from teaching if
considered tardy or absent.

 Computer and Internet: Teachers are responsible for acquiring all necessary technical
components required for providing the services, including but not limited to, web cam,
headset microphone device, personal computers and/or software, lighting, teaching
background, professional clothing and internet connection(s).

 Class Reports: Teachers shall fill out at least 200 characters in the after class reports within
twelve hours. Each class report shall reflect an accurate and unique account in the form of
feedback of in-class activities. In the event a student does not attend a scheduled class,
teachers can click “quit/student no show” for each student.

 Student No Show: in the event that no students enter the classroom in the class, teachers
must wait in the classroom until the scheduled end of the class and click the Fireman button.

 Equipment: Teachers systems are checked for compatibility during the onboarding process.
Teachers may only use approved systems and internet connections to teach. Failure to do
so can cause connection issues and may lead to temporary suspension.

 Dress code and presentation: Teachers must wear clean and tidy clothes while teaching.
Teachers should not eat, chew gum, smoke, speak on a home / cell phones, fall asleep,
yawn or participate in any other activity not related to instructing the students.

 Environment: There should be no ambient noise or other sounds that could distract the
student or detract from the quality of the Class. The student should enjoy a class free of
teacher’s background noise, including pets, people, telephones, music, or other distracting
sounds.

 Backdrop: Should be a simple wall or drape that is light in color and located in a brightly lit
environment. We recommend Teachers create teaching backgrounds including the SayABC
logo and teaching props.

Minimum Tech requirements

Linux(Ubuntu/Red flag/CentOS, etc) is not supported

CPU PC: CPU above Intel i3 4th generation or AMD A10 generation;

RAM Memory 4 GB and above

Bandwidth: 20M/sec download and 4M/sec upload, Teachers must always teach with LAN cable

connected. Ensure wifi is disabled before connecting the LAN cable

Headset: Teachers should not use any wireless or Bluetooth headset. USB or earphone jack
Headphone
are recommended.

Webcam: Do not use third party video effect software during class, such as ManyCam or
Camera
YouCam.

TEAMVIEWER should be installed before the class and keep it opening when you have class.
Others
VPN apps must be shut down during classes/lessons;

Useful IT Tips:

 Perform IT check through the platform before teaching every day.

 If you share your broadband with others, make sure they are not uploading, downloading and
playing video games during class times. Close all other programs (including minimized
programs).

 Always use network cable, never Wi-Fi,

 Turn off third party applications, VPN, Anti-Virus software or other unnecessary
applications/websites during class

 If a student has technical/attendance issues, please click the IT button/fireman button to ask
for help, making sure to remain in your class

 If you have any emergency issues, please continue your class and click the IT button to ask
for help or contact Teacher Support.
