or minor league) yesterday vs. the Reds, Kyle Lewis went 2-for-3 with a home run and 2 RBI…
Lewis missed the 2017 Spring Training while recovering from right knee surgery and was out for
2018 spring camp with a bone spur in his right knee…a 1st round draft pick (11th overall) in 2016,
Lewis enters the 2019 season ranked by Baseball America as the No. 8 prospect in the Mariners
organization (see full list at left).
WHAT A RELIEF…Mariners relievers have combined to hold opponents scoreless in 16.0 of their
last 17 innings pitched, dating back to 7th inning on Saturday vs. the Padres…overall, Mariners
relievers have a 1.84 ERA (4 ER, 28.2 IP) in 4 Cactus League games this spring…a pair of Mariners
have tallied 4 strikeouts in relief outings: Dan Altavilla (2.0 IP) and Justus Sheffield (2.0 IP)…

NEW COACHES…the Mariners seven-man coaching staff features four new faces this season:

T-MOBILE PARK…the Mariners and T-Mobile announced in December that the home field of
the Mariners will be known as T-Mobile Park for the next 25 years…the process of incorporating
T-Mobile branding assets throughout the ballpark will take place over the next several weeks…much
of the work is expected to be completed by Opening Day on March 28 when the Mariners host the
Boston Red Sox.
AROUND THE WORLD…in camp this spring, the Mariners have players from the United States
(50), Venezuela (5), the Dominican Republic (5), Japan (2), Colombia (2), Cuba, (1), Mexico (1) and
South Africa (1).
2019 JAPAN OPENING SERIES…the Mariners will open the 2019 regular season in Tokyo, Japan
on March 20-21 against the Oakland Athletics…the two-game 2019 Japan Opening Series at the
Tokyo Dome will be “road” games for the Mariners…the Mariners will travel from Arizona to Tokyo on
Thursday, March 14…the trip will begin with two exhibition games vs. Nippon Professional Baseball
teams on Sunday, March 17 and Monday, March 18…the Mariners will begin the regular season on
March 20 at 6:35 pm in Tokyo (2:35 am in Seattle) and will fly back to Seattle following the game on
March 21 (6:35 pm in Japan/2:35 am in Seattle)…this will mark the 5th time that the Major League
Baseball regular season has opened with a two-game series in Japan (last: 2012, SEA vs. OAK).

NEW THREADS…the Mariners have unveiled a new look for Spring Training 2019 with a new jersey
and cap…the jersey will be worn only during Spring Training…the cap will be worn throughout
the Spring and during batting practice during the regular season…the jersey is a vibrant shade of
powder blue, harkening back to the color schemes during the early years of the franchise (1977-
1984), with the current Mariners lettering in dark navy, outlined with silver and Northwest green…
the all-navy cap features a silver stylized letter “M” superimposed over elements from the Mariners
nautical compass rose symbol.
HEY GREG, DID YOU KNOW…that Mitch Haniger led the Major Leagues in hits vs. the Texas
Rangers last season with 26?…in 17 games against the Rangers in 2018, Haniger hit .377 (26x69)
with 13 runs, 10 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs, 19 RBI, a .410 on-base percentage and a .681
slugging percentage (1.091 OPS).
