ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Surgical Site Infection is a major issue related to Health

Assosiated Infections in Indonesia. In RSUD dr Tjitrowardojo Purworejo the
number of cases shows a significant increase over time. Infection Prevention and
Control Program has been generally implemented in this hospital but the program
has not been implemented comprehensively and integrated.
OBJECTIVES: To implement bundle of care with comprehensive unit-based
safety program strategy to reduce the number of Surgical Site Infection cases in
RSUD dr Tjitrowardojo.
METHODS: Pre-post study designed by comparing the rate of Surgical Site
Infection cases in 115 patients undergoing Obsgyn surgery in February and March
2018 at RSUD dr Tjitrowardojo Purworejo before the implementation of bundle of
care with 104 patients undergoing Obsgyn surgery in April and May 2018 after
implementation of bundle of care. Statistical analysis used Chi-Square test.
RESULTS: Out of 115 patients before the implementation of bundle of care, 8
cases of Surgical Site Infection occurred (cases rate 7%). While out 104 patients
after implementation of bundle of care, 3 cases of Surgical Site Infection occurred
(cases rate 2.9%). Drop in the cases rate of Surgical Site Infection obtained with the
bundle of care implementation using comprehensive unit-based safety program
strategy in this study was not statistically significant (p> 0.05).
CONCLUSION: Bundle of care implementation with comprehensive unit-based
safety program strategy in RSUD dr Tjitrowardojo Purworejo can decrease the
number of the cases of Surgical Site Infection but the drop in the number of cases
has not been statistically significant yet.
