Annotated Bibliography

In my essay, I will strive to answer how the legalization of marijuana has affected the

United States. I want to find out both opinions on the topic, people for and against the

legalization. If they are for it, is it the crime rates? Or the success of medical marijuana? Or if

against it, is it because of propaganda? Or because it is labeled as a drug?

Donnelly, Joseph, and Young Michael. “The Legalization of Medical/Recreational Marijuana:

Implications for School Health Drug Education Programs.” Journal of Research in

Education, Eastern Educational Research Association.Web Site:

Http://Www.eeraorganization.org, 31 Aug. 2018,

eric.ed.gov/?q=marijuana&id=EJ1187621.

This is an academic journal that is targeting adults, or citizens that can vote to see how

legalizing marijuana has affected the United States, and the pros and cons of each situation. This

journal is evenly biased, however there is more negatives than positives. This article tries to

persuade the readers to vote against the legalization. It lists several ways how it will affect the

United States in a poor manner.

More than half of the United States have legalized medical and recreational marijuana.

The journal thinks that this is a bad situation. The journal talks about how there has not been
enough research conducted on the medical aspects of this topic to say that it is positive. Also,

that rate of marijuana usage will grow as it is legalized farther across the United States.

This academic journal was published on eeraorganization(a library database). The source

of this article is The Journal of Research in Education. It was written by Joseph Donnelly, and

Michael Young. This journal was written very recent, it was written August 31, 2018, which will

still contain very relevant information on this topic. Also, it contains views from both sides, and

is not just opinionated.

I plan to implement this into my essay by including the negatives of the legalization of

marijuana. I will use the claims they made about not enough information collected yet from the

journal.

Felix, Alison. “The Economic Effects of the Marijuana Industry in Colorado.” Federal Reserve

Bank of Kansas City, 2018,

audience would understand or care about. The diagrams also are for health journalist, and health

professionals. The article is mostly facts, which a younger audience would not have any interest

in.

The legalization of marijuana has gone from a federal law, to state law, and now almost a

district law. Colorado has legalized marijuana, however, each city can decide whether or not to

allow retail stores. Within months of the creation of retail stores, the sales exceeded millions.

The article also shows several diagrams of the increases in production, and commerce since the

legalization.
This article was published on Kansascityfed. The source of this article is on Federal

Reserve Bank of Kansas City. It was written by Alison Felix. This article contains a lot of factual

information and is not biased. Also, it was published in 2018, which is very recent for this topic.

I plan to incorporate this into my essay by using the statistics to back up my claims. Also,

I will use the increase in money as a positive in the defense.

from back then till now with marijuana. It will show how it has affected the United States from

almost ago till the present.

students how their fellow classmates feel about the legalization, and their reasons for thinking so.

It states the results of the surveys conducted at local colleges, to show the number of students

who smoked marijuana. This journal shows the views of teenagers, and the effect on their

generation.

Many people believe that teenagers are the generation that wants marijuana legalized.

However, in this article it shows both views. It shows how the attitudes of the teenagers have

changed since the legalization has spread. A study found that almost 50% of students have

smoked marijuana, and that barely under 50% of students think it should be legalized.

This academic article was published by a Sinclair library database. The source of this

article is the American Journal of Health Studies. 2018,Vol.33 Issue 2 and it was written by

several people including, Rebecca Vidourek. This journal was written in late 2018, which means

it was recently written and posted. Also, there were few ads on the website.

conducted. I also plan to incorporate the teenager generation views into a part of the essay.
