ELECTRA LAYOUT
Digital terrain model (DTM)
When no digital terrain model data is available in drawing Electra provides tools to generate it. Run
the DTM (Digital Terrain Model) command, specify the name of the new surface and select input
data for surface creation (points, lines, blocks).

Electra DTM tool produces a 3D terrain model, which is used to design the power line route and
profile creation.
ELECTRA POWERLINE
Axis manager
Run the Axis manager command to define a new alignment or set active one from the alignments
list, in order to design new one or edit existing power line route alignment.

Power line / Power line route

Run the Power line command and confirm dialog window. The dialog offers options to select
alignment (from Axis manager alignments list) and the possibility to automatically create surface
profile on selected surface. If this option is not selected projection to profile can be created
manually.
ELECTRA PROFILE
Terrain / Draw terrain
The command for drawing the longitudinal profile supports more options and can draw the terrain
based on projection to a digital terrain model (DMT) in the drawing or it can draw the terrain based
on ASCII file with .LON extension.

Draw profile based on a digital terrain model (DMT) in the drawing:

Conductors / Define conductor
For the purpose of poles with pre-defined conductors catenary calculations interactive design
possibility the Define conductor (and also Edit poles) command enable users to define multiple
conductors between the two supporting poles.

After running the command Conductors / Define Conductor (or Poles / Edit poles) select the
supporting pole in profile (red color pole)

Determine the pole marking (name), console labels, insulators height, pole height (the default value
is always 10m) and determine the conductors attached to a pole in the lower part of the user
interface by clicking on the + button.

After clicking on the + button new dialog window opens for selecting the catenary, where another
click to the + button is necessary to define the mechanical characteristics of new cables and load
factors.
When conductor is added to a supporting pole a preview is set within the tightening field defined by
two supporting poles.

Pole / Draw pole

Having defined the conductors on the support pole it is necessary to determine the position of the
intermediate support poles. The command Draw pole has the same parameters as the Edit pole, but
user needs to define support poles now with following parameters:
. Station/position of the support mast *
. Type of pole
. Consoles, hanging and insulators labels
. Pole symbol (Block that that will be drawn in Route-marking band in Profile view table)
. Pole height
. Conductor’s names and attachments heights

TIP:
For a rapid drawing of successive support poles press > space < key after pole was inserted.
Pole drawing position preview and conductor sag preview:

Data labeling
After poles and conductors have been drawn the labels are automatically drawn in appropriate
profile bands.
Labeling / Label safety distance
The command Label safety distance labels the height between lowest conductor and the terrain line
to Safety distance profile band.

Labeling / Sag report

Command Sag report writes data of the designed power line to an external ASCII file with the ELE
extension.
DATA EDITING
Poles / Edit poles
Edit poles command supports the possibility of changing the pole position in layout or in profile view.
By selecting the pole either in layout or profile user can change its position using the Edit pole UI.

Catenaries / Edit catenaries

After running the command Edit catenary its parameters can be changed or catenaries removed.
Power line route changes
By moving the power line polyline using grips the route is automatically updated in layout and in
profile.
