In the middle of Lordstown you can
tell that there is a lot of newer
developments like homes. There
were many acres for sale signs up.
We were able to talk to one person
They said they had lived there for
as long as they could remember.
They did not say much, besides
that, there was not much that ever
happened there or much around
there.
I see a lot of teenagers and middle
age adults around. I did not see
any homeless. Most often groups
of people were seen. The only race
seen was caucasians.There were a
couple families playing outside with
parents aged 40-50 and kids aged
10-18.
I did not notice any indicators that
could indicate different ethnic
groups. There were three little
restaurants which none indicated
an ethnicity or culture. There are no
festivals.
There are many churches in
Lordstown. We saw a Lutheran
Church, Baptist Church, Christian
Church, and a Non Denominational
Church. Right before you entered
into Lordstown on the border of
Warren looked terrible. Once you
entered into Lordstown lawns and
houses seemed to be well cared
for. There were alot of trees. For
the most part it seemed
homogenous based on race. There
is a lot of farmland, so many fields
of green were noticed.
While driving around, these are the
churches that I saw:
Lordstown Christian Church,
Harvest Point Church, Lordstown
Baptist Church, and Shrine in
Honor of Our Blessed Mother. I did
not see any catholic churches in
town, just in Jackson township on
the way into Lordstown.
Lordstown was drawn by Samuel P. Lord and
was later deeded to his son. Among the earliest
settlers were William and Henry Thorne with
their families. The first cabin was built by Henry
Thorne. Alexander Longmore relocated to the
township about 1822; Thomas Pugh and William
Moore settled in the township about 1826. Other
early settlers included Jacob Harshman,
Thomas Duncan, Redman Wysell, Andrew
Grove and Peter Snyder. In 1829, Isaac Bailey
settled in a spot still known as Bailey's Corner.
Lordstown has a population of 3,325 people.
The town has an almost equal percentage of
men and women, 49.1% to 50.9% respectively.
The median age of people in the town are 47.2
years old. White is the dominant race (91.8%),
with the remaining 10% being comprised of
Asian, Black, American Indian, and Hispanic.
About 60% of the population is married and 10%
divorced. The average household income is
$55,650. The percentage of family households
is 73.7% with the average household size of 2.5
people. The town has a low crime rate
When comparing Lordstown to Ohio as a whole,
black and hispanic races are significantly below
the state average. 91.8% of the population is
white.

Observations
The physical environment was
pretty well kept towards the middle
of the city where there were the
schools, offices, etc. Around the
outskirts empty fields were
extremely overgrown and houses
were scattered. The overall feel of
the community was farm like.
Everything was green and the
amount of land was a lot for the
population that lived there.
There were no hospitals, clinics,
emergency centers, nursing homes
, or shelters in Lordstown. Right
before you get into Lordstown there
is a Warren West Community
Center that is newer. If they have a
hospital they have to go to
Trumbull Hospital or St. Joe's
Hospital. The community does
have access to them if they drive.
There was a senior citizen program
called the SCOPE near the school.
There was no evidence of acute or
chronic conditions with the people
we interacted with. There seemed
to be a lot of active people working
farms or landscaping. The health
systems are a big deficit in this
community as a functioning
community needs some health
system involved.
There are a couple different
industries for employment which
are the following: GM, Magna,
Matlaco. There really are not any
stores besides two Dollar generals,
the Speed check gas station, and a
really untaken care of quick stop.
The Dollar General does accept
Food stamps. If they want to shop
they have to go towards Warren or
North Jackson.

Air quality in Lordstown, Ohio is 72 on a scale to
100 (higher is better). This is based on new
measures of hazardous air pollutants from the
EPA, called the National Air Toxics Assessment.
This analysis models respiratory illness and
cancer risk down to the zip code level, providing
better detail and insight than the previous
analysis based solely on results from air
monitoring stations.
Water quality in Lordstown, Ohio is 47 on a
scale to 100 (higher is better). Note that this is a
measure of Watershed quality, not the water
that comes from your faucet. The EPA has
stated that a healthy watershed is closely
related to drinking water quality. The EPA has a
complex method of measuring watershed quality
using 15 indicators such as pH, chemicals,
metals, and bacteria.
SCOPE stands for Senior Citizens Opportunity
for Personal Endeavor. Our main goal and
objective is to assist older persons (50+) in
maintaining their independence and being part
of the community. SCOPE operates six senior
centers in Champion, Cortland, Howland,
Lordstown, Niles and Warren in Trumbull
County serving adults with daily recreational
activities, educational events, lunch,
socialization, and fitness programs. SCOPE
also has a Supportive Services division to
support the individual with information and
referral, Medicare/Medicaid assistance,
prescription assistance, food pantries and
grocery deliveries to homebound seniors.
The nearest hospitals that are used by
Lordstown residents are Trumbull, St.Joe’s, St.
Elizabeth’s, and Northside.Healthcare is a major
downfall for this community because if in need
of emergency rescue they have to look
elsewhere.
Lordstown is the youngest political unit in
Trumbull County becoming incorporated as a
village in 1975. The community has fast become
an enticing place to start and grow a family or
business. Today, there are approximately 4,000
residents living in the village. Lordstown's
General Motor's assembly and metal stamping
plants are the largest employers in the area.

do people get around? What type of

Observations
There are some sidewalks noted
around the middle of the town and
in the few neighborhoods. Where
there were not sidewalks we see
people walking/biking on the road.
When looking around nicer and
newer cars were noted, specifically
GMs. Which makes sense because
that is where the plant for GM is.
There were no public transportation
signs. A lot of people riding
bicycles. The only buses noted
were the ones at the school bus
garage. The fire, police,
maintenance, and water services
are central in Lordstown and are all
on the same road.

Transportation
Lordstown Street department is responsible
for maintenance including snow removal, ice
control, traffic signal maintenance and right-of-
way maintenance of over 70 centerline miles of
village streets and right of ways. The Street
Department also provides services for
Soaptown, Paltzgrove, and Lordstown
cemeteries.
There is an average of three cars per
household in Lordstown and an average worker
commute time of just under twenty minutes.
Most people in Lordstown drive alone or
carpool. The main public transit system is
Trumbull County Transit which also provides
$1.50 to $2 fares 365 days/year for elderly
offering through the door service. Private
services include Uber, Lyft, and private taxis.
Safety System
Fire Department: Consists of 1 Chief, 1
Assistant Chief, 3 Captains, 3 Lieutenants, and
44 Firefighters including 31 Firefighter-
EMT/Paramedics.
Services/usage: Lordstown Fire Department
operates out of one central station and proudly
serves a population of approximately 3,300
people.
Police Department:
Source of Support: 8 full time and 12 part
time officers. The department also has multiple
dispatching positions, providing 911 dispatching.
Community education: CodeRed (emergency
text/call notification service)
Crime rate: Average: thefts=71, average
burglaries=25, 0 murders, rapes, or arson
reported. Overall, below US average and Ohio

Rape Crisis Center: COMPASS Family &
Community Services has programs that care for
people from infancy through their senior years in
Mahoning and Trumbull counties. There is no
local rape crisis center in the Village, but the 24
hour hotline is available by phone: 330-782-
3936.

Observations
The only political signs that were
seen were democratic signs. There
is a building near the middle of
town where the mayor and other
council members can be found.
Many people are involved in the
TJXX.There are many signs
supporting it and a few that do not
support it.
Lordstown also has their own
police and fire departments as well
as governing bodies.
I walked into a gas station to see
what newspapers were available
and noticed it was a common place
for people to gather. There were
people that appeared to be
regulars because they were talking
to the workers as if they knew each
other. The newspapers I saw for
sale were the Tribune Chronicle,
Plain Dealer, and the Vindicator. I
did not hear any talk about tv or
radio.
The schools look pretty up to date.
They are all on the same property
which is nice. The maintenance
looks well kept and there is a
newer playground. There is a small
library nearby the school. They do
have a board of education.
There are a couple different places
to play. At the park, we saw a
playground, tennis court, basketball
court, and baseball fields. The park
also has a one-mile wooded path to
walk through.At the school, there
was a track and practice baseball
fields.

The 2016 election results showed that 51% of
the population voted for Trump, 45% for Clinton,
and 5% for other. In past elections the results
were in favor of the democratic party.

Lordstown has a one room historic school-
house located near the high school. The town
had a centennial celebration on May 13, 2018
for the consolidation of 7 schools in 1918, which
started their school system that has grown to
what it has today.
The Lordstown Village Parks & Grounds
Department is responsible for the maintenance
and/or mowing of all Village properties including
its parks, cemeteries and buildings. There are
two parks within the Village that the Parks &
Grounds Department maintains-Village Park
and Central Park. The 60-acre Village Park,
located off Ohio Route 45, has four baseball
fields, two soccer fields, two basketball courts,
four tennis courts, four horseshoe pits, three
volleyball courts, shuffleboard courts, a one-mile
nature trail with exercise equipment, and two
pavilions.
They also have a recreational program free for
anyone to come that includes yoga, walking,
fitness, Body Focus, and open gym.

Observations
When talking to a member of the
community it was at stated that,
“There is not much to do out here.
You have to drive somewhere
else.” Problems related to not
having a lot of restaurants, or
grocery shops in Lordstown itself.
Strengths were being from a small
community lets you know more
people.
They are really lacking in healthy
food options such as a good
grocery store and any health care.
There seems to be a lot of
upcoming communities and a lot of
land that is for sale that could be
developed to create more jobs. The
community population was on the
older side.
Data
We talked to a group of four people that ranged
in age from 16-50. The residents we talked to
were working outside on a nice day. This
exemplified that this community cares about the
state in which their community is presented. The
problems they identified were that there was not
a lot of restaurants or entertainment. Although
we asked the teenager, the mother of this teen
answered our questions, this showed her
protective nature.
The strengths are that this community values
hard work, environment, and physical activity.
We observed a lot of people utilizing the parks,
working outside on their homes and businesses,
and it is apparent that they are a factory town.
The closest hospitals are in Warren which are
St. Joe’s and Trumbull Memorial. This would be
a major weakness. They could also go to
St.Elizabeth main or Boardman.
