MPQ Interpretation Note
Cultural empathy is defined as the ability to accept another cultural point of view, to think of the particular way in which the people in a foreign society think and interact as the right way. Being culturally empathic means being able to identify with the feelings, thoughts and behavior of individuals from different cultural backgrounds, to function effectively with people of other cultures, and to acquire understanding of those cultures. Cultural empathy is an important element in acknowledging and perceiving other cultures. The score that I obtained in the Cultural Empathy was 8.3, which is identified as a high score. The description provided for the “high score” category is the following: “A person with this score knows how to approximate very effectively what goes on in other people's minds. (S)he will actively exhibit real interest in the feelings and needs of others. (S)he is quick to grasp which feelings, thoughts and behaviors play an important role in the “blueprint” of the cultures with which (s)he is confronted.” I agree with that description. I indeed like other cultures a lot and seek to learn as much as possible about their inner mechanisms and about how do people from other cultures tend to think. I think it is important to do that for a media student because it allows one to sell more ads to different people or make movies that are culturally attractive to more countries’ box offices. In the future, my high cultural empathy will probably be useful in working in international institutions and corporations, and in getting hired in other countries. It will also allow me to make more friends with people from other cultures. Preferably rich people from other cultures who can either finance my media projects or hire me at their Digital Media Transnational Conglomerates. To develop and improve this dimension of myself over the next month, I intend to go out drinking more with people from other cultures, since when people are drunk they are honest and I can ask them whatever question I want about their culture and I will get a real answer. Also, people are apparently more fun when drunk, go figure. Alcohol is also seen as a social lubricant in a lot of cultures (some even view it as sacred, and those are the culture I should focus my research on). In addition, I intend to take more tests like this until I learn the perfect answers so I get a 10/10.
